Take a look at that "Square Foot Garden" approach Faith. That'll help.

My buddy Ken called and asked when we were going to put in our garden cause he is ready. We talked last year about planting an extra space for his family to use. I was all excited and ready to go until I remembered that it was my Uncle Paul, who recently passed, was doing my plowing and discing for me. Well shucks, I guess I can try to make that Wheel Horse do it! Uncle Paul would want me to I think.

Yes. I think your Uncle Paul would want you to get that garden out no matter how you had to do it. --even if it takes a pack of big dogs digging up the ground to get it worked up. (Make 'em pay for the kibble.) I've got about a dozen plants started for a bigger variety of Golden Jubilee tomatoes and about half that many Early Girl's. Will have to cabbage up some big pots or buckets on trash day when the city slickers plant their trees. Gonna have to go containers all the way this year. Not onlly practical, but also portable (should the need arise).

"Honey, get the kids and pack up the garden!"
"But dear, there's nothing ripe for us to pick yet."
" I didn't say pick. I said pack. We're movin'"
It just don't seem right do it? lol

That could be prophetic bruddder! Them Britton's don't ledt no grass grow under their feet! What you talking 'bout Foreman? ? I got brave today. I think we'll stay here through the summer. Kicked off the shoes and actually planted a little garden. Got the beans, beets, cukes, zukes, muskmelon, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage and watermelon planted. Am debating on lettuce. I think it's a tad bit late. Will start maybe 4 giant pumpkins this afternoon.

Put that lettuce, leaf, on the north side and cover it up with that cheese cloth part of the day. Harvest with scissors. Get the buttercrunch, red leaf and bibb.

I was thinking Buttercrunch too. Found a pack of Romain lettuce this morning that was from last season. It was fairly heat tolerant up til almost July.

That ought to be all right just put it in rows renning East and West and remember to cover it up at high sun (around noon to 1400) after it has sprouted.

Well, I guess the garden space isn't a waste afterall. Went out to water last night and had wax peppers about 4" long and tomatoes about the size of my thumb nail. All the bushes are absolutely loaded full! What green beans came up are thinking about growing and that's it. Got fed up with the rest of the garden and threw a 3# coffee can full of marigold seeds all over it. Ought to be at least purdy later on.

I would love to get a garden out but to do so I'd have to get a dumptruck load of dirt. Nothing more then rock in the places I have room for a garden.

Mars you must be close to Pall Mall! Do like Sergeant York did; plant between the rocks or move the rocks!

The bad thing is that I have bottom land! The creek out back I guess is the source of the rocks as they are all smooth and round. There's no "in between". When we dug out the septic, they guy that helped me seperated the rocks from the dirt so I wouldn't have to dig out all the rocks again. He ended up with, If I remember right, 4-5 wheelbarrow loads of rock and half a load of dirt.

Get ya a couple of old kiddie swimming pools and fill 'em with topsoil and plant away.
I haven't even begun to think about a garden this spring. I usualy get the itch when I see Dad out getting his ground cut up, but he ain't been at it yet either.
Too much going on and not nearly enough time. I might rent the kids to put me in a mess of onions, turnips, radishes and maybe some pole beans. I'll see what they'll charge me and go from there, lol. ;D

Couldn't plant anything here except maybe sea weed right now. I want to break ground as soon as it dries up a bit and get the old tiller serviced. Got to have a garden this year if I want to eat.

Thinking about getting some salad greens planted this afternoon. Had the landscape boys leave what mulch was leftover. Will work that into the dirt for a starter garden. Neighbor works at Michellina's and has access to free 5-gallon buckets. Told him to cabbage a couple of stacks for me. We'll have maters and peppers sticking out our ears this summer -- If the 4-legged critters don't eat everything.
Until I can get several loads of top soil up here, I think the container approch is the way to go. Got our property tax bill last week and the legal discription of our place pretty much describes the land: "NW face of clayworks"
