My Dad used to keep tomato plants in 5 gallon buckets all year. When it got cold, he just moved them inside by the wood stove and they loved it in there.

Hey y'all, time to get the tillers and mowers and all that other yard stuff ready to go again. At least crank them up and run them for a bit. In a couple of months you won't get them in a shop because everyone is going to be swamped. Take them in now for tune up and sharpening and you may get a discount too. Slow time of year for them guys.

Good idea! My sister gave me a pushmower with a bagger, and a bigger garden tiller than I have. The caveat is they've been sitting outside in the elements for a couple years, and neither will start. There's a guy outside of town I'm gonna take those too. Hopefully, he'll resurrect them for me. I also need to rake the leaves from my yard. The darn wind just wouldn't blow those rascals away!

Bloodlust, the best way to get the leaves out of the yard is to slip a kid down the street twenty bucks.

I was looking in the almanac yesterday and noticed that for us southerners it is time to deep till and plant the root vegtables, broccoli, rubarb, cabbage, colliflower and such. Also start Tomatos, and flowers and such indoors for the outdoor gardens.

I DON'T LIKE BRUSSEL SPROUTS!!!! Why do they always show up around me? ? I like greens, turnip, collard even dandilion. I love cabbage too, but them Brussel sprouts just flat turn my belly....

I love brussle sprouts..boiled up and smothered in butter with a good coating of black pepper...or as grandma used to do, pickel'em like sourkraut (she actually called it kraut) now that, as my friend Alton would say, is good eats ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

TT, you sound just like Miss Kathy, well not really sound like her but, you said the same things she does. I'll manage to choke one or 2 down when she makes them but that is it. Now, for me it is cabbage. Which I should get going real soon, All I have to do is get off my butt and till the garden and get it ready. I don't think we're done getting frosty yet here so I'm going to wait at leats a couple weeks or a month. Yeah a little late by the almanac but better safe than sorry.

Thinkin' on puttin' in some Okra and egg plants. I bought the seed, but I just ain't got it done yet. I probably ought to be doing that rather than visiting in here, but I'm just taking a break from writing.
I use the forums when I'm working whenever I get to a point where I need to clear my mind. I'm too lazy to take a walk, so I log on and get a grin or two.

Join the crowd! I've got a $1200 treadmill that I bought for next to nothing sitting right beside my computer. Only one who uses it are the kids. On the other side of the computer is a window overlooking the garden--muddier than heck and waiting to be turned over next month. I'm chomping at the bit to get some stuff started indoors. But up here, I better wait another 4 or 5 weeks.

TT, If you weren't so far away I would come and get all the Brussel Sprouts and cabbage you had! But I figure I could get it here cheaper because if I figured in gas to Ct. they would cost close to $200 per lb! ;D

I can just see the recipe for cooking 4 brussel sprouts...bring to a boil in a very small pot 3 tablespoons of salted water place the 4 trimed sprouts in the boiling water cook until tender...remove, flash in a cup of cold water with 1 ice cube...put in a bowl add a dab of butter and sprinkel with Black pepper...have a whole lot of other stuff to eat... ;D ;D ;D ;D

The leafy greens are a hazard to your rat poison. Couple days ago I sat merrily munching on my grapefruit when I had a brain flash; "Man you aren't supposed to eat grapefruit with cholesterol inhibitors!" Guess why? Stick a grapefruit knife in your liver and twist it a bit and you'll know!

Well, it's February. FINALLY!!! ;D
I've got every windowsill in the house (all 14 of them) full of seed trays. Started cabbage, kale, kholrabi, broccoli, and cauliflower today. YIPPEE!!
Four more weeks. Got...to...be...patient...........Can't...hold...on...much...longer......Then I can get the 'maters started. I know I said I wasn't planting them this year, but I found a couple of ancient varieties I hadn't seen since my great grandma was around.
Now if the ground just dries out a little so Mike can go out and turn the garden, I'll be tickled[glow=pink,2,300]PINK![/glow]
Anyone up for spinach salad or spinach pie for the GT? It should just be coming on good by then if'n I get it in the ground when planned.

Wait to put in the 'maters?
I've got beefsteak 'maters comin outta my ears! Along with pole beans and string beans. Of course that's all in my Dad's garden. I've got the brusel sprouts coming up great, but they haven't started heading yet. The egg plants are up good and the okra's nearly waist high.
Got about six inches of rain today. The garden drains pretty good, but if we gotta get some rain.
Ya'll ought to be here for the Strawberries!!!! They're ripening up all over and my folks took the kids th other day to a u-pick field and I got three flats off of them.
Can you say JAM? I thought you could. MMMMMM!

Ahh! Strawberries!! But only three flats?? My next door neighbor runs a u-pic patch. I pick for poundage. They know to keep at least five rows reserved for me. I try to get at least 170 lbs each year. I can say JAM. And PIE and WINE and ICECREAM, too!! ;D ;D
You can have your Beefstake 'maters. Don't much care for them flavor wise. I plant Mortgage Lifters, Stuckey's Pride, and Yellow Pears.
Raining right now and in the mid 40's. We have winter storm warning up for most of OH for the weekend. Locally, we are only suppose to get maybe 3 inches of the white shite. North of us (from Akron to Lake Erie could get 1 - 2 FEET of it. I really feel sorry for any of the guys up that way.

The three flats of Strawberries is just a start. I'll have a couple of dozen flats put away before the end of the month. ;D ;D ;D
My Daddy's the wine maker in the family and he's already getting the jugs ready. I still have a few pints of last seasons that turned out Awesome!
Trouble with Strawberry wine is that it sneaks up on ya. We went fishin' once with a half gallon of his wine and by the end of the trip, that jug was empty. We was motoring back to the dock when a five pound, big mouth bass jumped out of the water and landed in the boat.
He grabbed it by the lip and told it that if you can't bite, you can't ride! And threw him back in!
Good wine! ;D
