I watch Rachel's shows too....I like her kind of cooking, its not really gourmette and raw....The biggest knock on her by some trained chefs, and I completely disagree, is that she's not professionally trained....She got her start working in upstate NY hotels in managing a kitchen....Her recipes are well tested.

Probably jealousy. I have quit often seen that professionals turn their noses up at someone that is self-taught. They mostly do that if the self-taught person is better at the job then the trained and certified one. Had a trained butcher complaining to me one day why I pay such-and-such more than him. I told him "because he is better than you". After he picked his jaw up from the floor and put his eyes back in the socket he said. "But I am trained and certified he is not". To which I said, "go and take a long walk on a short pier if it makes you feel better." ;D

My Mom, is not fond of a lot of the "chefs" on the shows these days..so if she likes Rachel then the girl is ok in my book ;D ;D ;D of course I liked her long before Mom ever said anything I like her energy..she gives the impression that she really and truly loves what she's doing..besides she's cute as a button ;D ;D ;D and she does cook like most common folk...open and drain a can of beans then add it to the pot...nothing real fancy but good nutritious food...that are generally easy to make...most folks can follow along and make what she makes without having to have a culinary degree....

Damn Othmar! Too brutal! Me brutal? I talk straight from the heart. Never have been one to entertain any political correct ideas or terms of talking. It worked too, a few months later that guy got a better wages because he picked up slack. I guess he was embarrassed that a non-trained is better than he. I often engage workers into competition or tell them they are lazy, provided they are, that will bring the better out in them rather than smoother them with sweet talk. ;D

Sometimes folk tend to forget that they get paid for what they do rather than what they know! We had an awful lot of that in the government arena. One supervisor who I particularly liked kept a sign above his desk which read "Produce or Perish". ;D I thought that was great.
