Today is the day I try (WILL) quit smoking. Maybe it's a good thing it's not hunting season, no weapon in my hand. Anyway, it's time, and I will do it this time. ;D

Jayme,
One of the hardest things I ever did was give up that habit. One thing you need to know. Don't ever think you can pick one up again without starting all over.
Yep, I'm back to a pack a day after three years without one. Just decided one day to have a cigar with the boys and it was all over.
It's just like any other habit. If you play around with it you'll start again.
Just say NO!

Rich,
I know what you mean. I had quit for three years once myself. Then, on the way to Idaho on an elk hunt, my hunting partner was asleep, and his smokes were on the dash. He had driven all day and most of the night from WI (we really wanted to get there). I was falling asleep, but didn't want to wake him, so, grabbed a smoke to stay awake. Now, I want to quit so I can stay alive.

Actually, Jayme now you can get a "seat" at a restuarant. I haven't found a restuarant with a smoking section in a long time.

Rich and Jayme, you guys will be $hit out of luck if you want to smoke in one of our greasy spoons here soon in Mountain Home!! There is a tax (increase) vote and a no smoking in public place vote coming up soon . Lots of grinding of teeth and anomosity! I guess I'm stuborn but I quit COLD TURKEY the first day of deer rifle season in Wisconsin in 1979 and haven't had one since ;D :DWith what I saved I figured I could buy a rifle or shotgun every year and thats just about what I've done...if you don't believe me just ask my child bride! ;D ....Bill

Hey Jayme;
I quit on my 40th birthday..That was 7 years ago..I quit because I couldn't walk 100 yards without stopping and lighting one up, and catching my breath.(that is what I said to myself)...It was tough but you can do it with a little will-power...
The bad thing is I could pick one up right now and enjoy it, I love the smell of them...

Bill,
After that little write up in the Journal Mountain Home will need a tax increase for all the new roads you guys are going to have build to keep up with all the traffic coming into town ;D
Not many smoking sections in Harrison either. That's okay though. For what it costs me to smoke now-a-days who can afford to eat out?
The only places that really bother me are places like Seattle where you get frowned upon even if you smoke in the street.
I've just decided that as hard headed as I am I'm going to keep doing it even if it kills me - uh, I guess that's probably going to happen, huh? Well, at least I won't be 70 pounds overweight like I was. so my coffin should be cheaper.

Don't worry Bill, that hard headed part about me is true for everything. I've already made up my mind that I'm going to out live my wife just to be ornery. Her family lines are awesome though. Her grandma died at 102 and both of her parents are in their late 80's and her aunt is 90. I guess I'm going to have to be "really" hard headed but that's the plan.
BTW I made a trip out to the property this afternoon. Hadn't planned on going but it was so darned nice that about noon I just grabbed the dog and a gun, jumped in the old red truck and spent the afternoon there.
The dog must have thought I needed some exercise cause she made me walk from the campsite back to the other side of the cable then down into the creek bottom, then up the ridge by the main gravel road, then down to the lake and then back to camp. I figure about five arduous miles.
It was fun though. She chased about 2 dozen squirrels around and jumped a big flock of turkeys. Was glad to see the turkeys - it's getting close to that time you know.
I got home tonight and told Linda I was going to give you a call and see if you wanted to bring your dog out next week-end and just do a little scouting. But, it sounds like you are going to be pretty busy. Maybe the week-end after.
My friend in Flippin has two labs and he's been wanting to bring them out. They are older dogs but still like the woods. Might be fun for all of us to let our dog's take us for a hike one week-end.
Have fun in Houston.

Bill,
One other thing - I called the Corps of Engineers and asked them about their survey markers. They said the writing on them doesn't have anything to do with townships, ranges, etc. but are just numbers they use for whatever it is they use them for. Didn't quite understand what the guy was telling me. However, he did say they sold a CD for $10.00 that showed all the property around the lake that was theirs. So, one of these days I'm going to run over and pick one up. Might come in handy.

Bill,
Actually, I thought I'd just run over there one day next week after you get back from Houston and maybe have lunch with you. Can't do it this week. I've been busier than a one armed paper hanger and got to go to Springfield tomorrow for a class.
