For future reference.....a 36-ft raised bed 2-ft wide and 6-inches deep PLUS an 8-ft square veggie bed 8-inches deep requires 3 TONS of topsoil. Given the maximum cargo rating of a Ford F150, That's 3 trips to the quarry (or 2 if you load like I do - just add an extra 15 lbs air to the rear tires before you leave Wellston and don't drive above 40mph all the way home.) I think next time I'll just have them deliver a 12-ton dump truck load. Gonna end up using it anyways once I get a bunch of berry runners and have to set up more rows. You ought to. Get your soil, sand, and compost all close by and work them up as needed. This old boy net door has turned his 58 acre coal mine into a beautiful orchard. Blood, sweat, and tears unless dirt is your thing and then it is pure Heaven!

Blood, sweat, and tears unless dirt is your thing and then it is pure Heaven! YEP! It's my thing. Those flowers aren't just for color. They're there to keep the dang chickens from scratching everything up. They work like a charm.

I snuck 4 rows each of Contender and Cherokee Wax beans between the peas and tomatoes. Peas, beets, cukes, carrots & beans are all up. Tomatoes are starting to set blossoms. I'll keep the hot caps on for another week to be safe. Am I the only one in Ohio with a garden this far along?
Hens have a new run built so they don't tear up the gardens. Chicks are being moved to the henhouse just as soon as I buy a second hanging waterer tomorrow. I MUST reclaim my living room so I can rid myself of allergy eyes.
