There's a secret involved in deer hunting! It is said the deer have a huge tendency to be found roaming in the fields and woods and very rarely in a living room unless on a wall. ;D ;D

You might just have something there! I got to get my lard ass out the door and in the field! This week-end looks promising I hope. Temperatures should drop back down some and if it stays dry it will be good hunting.

Heavy rain is about the only weather that will keep me out of the deer woods except one time I went hunting in Indiana when it was 30 below zero. After the frostbite from that little scenario I said 0 degrees is my limit for hunting. The animals cannot run inside so they are out there. You just have to know where they are.

Seems like I'm getting less and less time for things I really want to do and the things I'd rather not do take longer and longer. Think maybe I'm in a rut.

Rut-Ro, Paw's is in a rut. You did not retire to be in a rut. Get your ass moving and do something different. Take a ride to somewhere that you have not been to or even come on down here for a visit. Bill

C'mon down Paws!!!! I'll let you sit my hilltop stand and take what ever comes out. Or if you want to see them close, I can put you on the climber in the swamp. Either way, tyyou'll get to shoot. I took a funny 6 point yesterday who had recently had his butt whooped. He had 4 points on one side and an eye gaurd and "spade" on the other. Funy looking, crooked rack. Off of the hilltop stand. He had 4 fresh fight wounds on his neck and another deep one on his butt. Big bodied too for this area, about 175 or 180 lbs. That's makes it 1 Ark doe and a spike and this 6 point from the hilltop stand for a total of 3 in the freezer. Now it's time to settle down and be careful. Looking for some good racks now. We do want to take 1 or 2 more does off this land before the season ends though. Matt and I have seen over 25 deer this last 2 weeks and all but the 3 bucks we took home were does. Now none of the bucks we took were seen before either. Not a single picture on the game camera of any of them. So come on Paws, come and get you some meat.....

know what you mean about waking up to the smoldering fire. I've got a doe and a hog in the freezer since the season started, enjoyed several good hunts without even seeing critters, and all of them have been local. I get up, take a shower and go hunting. I come home get a bite to eat and work at the computer. It ain't the same! I've got a couple of hunts coming up real soon that are going to be campfire hunts and I'm looking forward to it. I'll be putting in for cook duty on one day in camp, just to get the kinks out. I'm thinking scotch eggs and sour dough biscuits for breakfast and a big pot of campfire chilli for supper. I also plan on getting in some hunting too, since these are muzzleloader hunts, I expect to sling a 370gr. maxi-ball at something.

This sucks! I kill my much sought after spike buck in Michigan. I take it and the other deer to be processed and they cape the spike while I wait and retag it so it can be mounted. The kill tag remains with the meat. I gave the meat away and bring the cape back here to Tn.. Stupid Tn. rules say that I must have the actual kill tag and not the "processers" tag on the deer plus a whole lot of other info about the buck and kill that Michigan itself doesn't require. The meat with the kill tag were picked up and distributed by a church to several people so finding who has the tag and if it didn't get thrown out is just to much of a hassle plus the other info they want so it was a no-go at the taxidermists today. So now I'll just cut the antlers off and get a antler mounting kit unless I get a stupid streak going and decide to order from VanDykes and mount the head myself. On the plus side, the daughters squirrel is now at the taxidermists.

Air's been to warm, moist and heavy today. Have been hearing similar things all day about not seeing anything or deer appearing too late in the evening.
BIL wounded a doe early this morning. Trailed her for about 80 yards then lost the blood trail totally.

I winded 3 "one right after another" less than 30 yards away from me. Never heard or saw a thing until they snorted and flagged. All I saw was backside, tail and a bit of saddle on the last one. Was out about three hours this morning. I think the boy below me got two this morning. I heard a four wheeler heading down his road when I first went out then about a half hour before those deer busted me there were two shots.

Tally up 2 more bucks, both 10-pt'ers. One last night, the other about an hour ago.
That makes (2) 10-pt, 9-pt, 8-pt, 4-pt, button, and 2 does so far, including youth season. One of the 10-pt, the 4-pt and one doe are kills by some guys that hunt on us. Rest are ours.
