You'll get to Gettysburg before I do so I can't help. We'll be there the second week of July for our family reunion. If it ever stops raining we will just go out back for the first camping trip.

I've not gone out yet! Seems something always comes up. I may have to just take off with my green quilt and do things the old way before anybody, including the wife, can stop me.

Grabbed the quilt, a load of firewood and talked the oldest daughter into hitting the woods up the creek last night. She slept in the bed of the truck while I slept on the ground with a boulder for a pillow. I think the ground and rocks used to be softer then they are now. ;D

We have been spending the night up the creek atleast once a week. Last night I had a big ol' spider crawling on me who soon became a big ol' dead spider. One of the hazards of sleeping on the ground. The owls have been active lately and most nights hear the calls from 3-4 different kinds. Daughter was surprised to learn that not all owls hoot. ;D

Going to start some stuff huh? I was mowing the yards yesterday and a couple hundred yards West on the prooperty is a spot surrounded by conifers about oh a hundred feet wide that is the most perfect spot for a tent you could imagine. Anyway I'm getting the old sphincter pucker and wanting to dig out back packs!

Watch those pine trees! Not a problem in a tent but I slept under them before sans tent and on a windy night woke up covered in park bark, needles and bugs that blew off the tree.

Yeah they make a mess but they sure smell awful nice. The dried ones make great tinder too and if you need the pitch for anything like glue, gum, or even a bug bit man it good stuff.

Most everything out your direction is soggy and dripping. Think about crossing into North Carolina and take the high ground. Will be a bit cooler up there anyhow. Maybe you'll get that bear picture. Taking your quilt or something more substantial?

We went over to Erwin. I talked a friend I've known since high school into going with the daughter and I. When we picked him up he mentioned to my daughter that I used to go camping with nothing but an old green quilt. My daughter laughed and told him to take a look in the back. ;D ;D In our local news, a local campground and rafting company had to endure 3 hours of being stranded last week when the river rose and covered a section of the access road to the campground/ rafting outfit. This is the campground that makes me walk around their property instead of going through it when I hunt up the river. All I could think of was, wouldn't it be great if they made something out of something like rubber that could be easily inflated and float on water so they didn't "suffer" for those 3 hours. ;D

I'm probably gonna get thrashed and stoned for this. Several years ago, we went out and purchased a 14 person tent, three burner camp stove, air mattresses, arctic sleeping bags, and a lifetime supply of "hot hands" so we could GO to the woods. Well, we now live in the woods. Camping is simply a matter of pulling a couple comfy chairs into the back yard and setting some dead wood ablaze. So, I had a yard sale and sold all the camping gear EXCEPT for the dandy DO Phil got us started with a few years back, a couple of frying pans I found on back the ridge in the dump this summer, and the kerosene heater. Used the proceeds of the yard sale on a bag of turf-type tall fescue seed and, by golly, it's starting to grow already.
