Our Civil War Roundtable in Murfreesboro announced yesterday that a new grant of $150,000 came in from D.C.-based Civil War Preservation Trust and went to the Franklin Battlefield preservation trust. This money is added to the $2.5 million to buy the 110 acre country club tract beside Carnton Plantation! They already have it worked out so that the remainder of the $5 million price tag is to be paid off by private donations and from pledges they already have over the next year. So, finally a large piece of the battlefield will become a preserved/restored park! Carnton Plantation also is said to be the scene of an upcoming movie about the McGavocks. There's a book out about Mrs. McGavocks called something like "The South's Widow" or something close, and a movie deal is said to be in the works.

I will do that. Give me a few days to get them back together. There is a "Save our Civil War Battlefields" chapter in TN I have learned that is actually getting matching grant money together to work on Liberty Gap. My Democrat bro-n-law got it for me from another State rep whom he had sent my original e-mail idea to.
