Weather is not cooperating. Too warm. Been doing fair on fox and and coon. Holding off on 'yotes and bobcats until the weather gets a lot colder. May back off fox for a while also. Only thing the warm weather is good for making my bait get good and ripe in the mason jars. I have some 25 qt mason jars filled with lake trout and salmon carcasses sitting out in the sun.

What's the wax paper for? Pan cover?

A piece of heavy duty wax paper over the whole trap before you sift dirt on it will protect it from getting dirt under the pan and also from freezing. Also a piece of real low density foam under the pan helps keep dirt from preventing it for going off when stepped on

A trapping partner I had years ago had a bait that he made that really caught the fox. He took cubed beef and soaked it in vanilla flavoring overnight. Stuff smelled good enough that you'd want it instead of using it for bait. He trapped the fox and skinned everything while I ran the traps for coon and rats ect.. I have some of this made up today so I'm going to see if it works here as well.

How is fur prices in your neck of the woods Mars? They have been low here the past few years and hear they are comming up in price so it might be worth doing some trapping. Mostly all I do is shoot yotes for some ranchers. I know Griz has good fur up there as cold as it gets there and he will get a better price.

Don't know about the prices yet. Gotta catch something besides possum's and housecats. Regular season opens on the 15th so I should do better as the water animals I'm better at trapping.

Mars, if you are having trouble catching fox and 'yotes, try putting you set trap in a thin zip lock bag before covering it. That will hold in all the scent. You can also use the Human Scent eliminator spray that bowhunters use.

Thanks Griz! What messed me up was the farmer took his corn out of the field. Scared everything out of it for a little bit except housecats. Haven't seen a track since.

Make some small dirt hole sets along the edge of the field and you catch the coons. Also use a cubby set made with a piece of PVC pipe. or a bucket set. All these work great for racccoon.

Can't do that until Monday. Dumb Indiana rules. I can trap fox, coyote and skunk but have to wait until the 15th for coon, beaver, mink, muskrat and possum but I can hunt the coon and possum now.

Cubby sets will work great for fox also. a good set for 'yotes is to put a hay bail in the field. Put traps on top, 'yotes and fox love to sit on a high point and look!

Stinks that deer hunters think that if they find a trap that they can just take it. Any deer hunters here care to explain this?
