There is nothing like a handcrafted game call. Often they sound more convincing to the game too.

That carving reminds me of scrimshaw Toby. You got a little Eskimo in you there buddy? It sure is gorgeous! That display is pretty sharp too.

Here I have been giving Tony Hades for his choice of vimmin but he does have some talent, I guess ;D. That is a good looking call. Congrats on a job well done, Toby.

Your call's tuned up and ready to ship out in the morning! Thanks a lot Freddie!
Paws, no, I'm no Eskimo. I draw the turkeys on with a pencil. I tried to scrimshaw in the past, but the bones are too thin walled or my hands are too clumsy, because I kept cutting through.
No body ever buys them for the pictures anyway. That's just cosmetics. Everyody wants them to kill turkeys and wingbone calls have been doing it for hundreds and hundreds of years.
If you have any trouble getting it to sound right Freddie, let me know and maybe we can set up a phone tutorial.
Just give it a kiss and it'll give you a cluck. Purse your lips and give the end a gentle sucking (kissing) type of action and experiment until you get the clucking sound. Once you've mastered the cluck, try dragging out the sound to get a yelp. The yelp takes more practice, but those are the two deadliest calls in the Spring woods.
These calls offer a subtle, realistic, turkey sound that WILL get their attention. Use sparingly and let the turkeys hunt you. Sit tight, be patient, and call every fifteen minutes or so. Cluck every four or five minutes, and wait him out! Good luck!!!

My call came in today. I am really impressed with the craftsmanship and the quality. Now, if I can get this durn thing to make a sound other than just air going through it I might get me a dumb ole turkey. Noticew, I said dumb because I know I can't kill a smart one ;D

I got sound!!! ;D What is embarrassing to me though is my 8 year old got sound first! But after a little more practice and experimenting, I got it to make a sound. But, I think a tom is gonna have to be either deaf or real desperate to come to my calling ;D Its possible I could call in a jake. I figure a jake is like a 17 year old boy. He has too many hormones and don't know what to do with them ;D

Jew don' need no stinkin' batteries!!!
Just use an a/c adapter from an old electric calculator. Plug it in, but before you use it with the call, be sure to lick the little silver end so that you get a good connection.

Toby, if cutting won't work how about a wood burning pencil? ;D Where are you getting your raw materials?

I haven't tried the wood burning pencil, although I have two of them. I make so many in what little extra time I have, that I really haven't spent too much time experimenting.
I've always just drawn a scene or two on the calls, to give them a little better aesthetic appeal, in #2 pencil.
I get the raw material, the ulnar and radius bones of the turkey's wing, by eating a LOT of turkey. I get trays of turkey wings all throughout the year and my family members all have begun eating a lot of turkey all year long too and saving me the bones.
I save all of my wild turkey bones an have a few friends that save me thiers as well, so I usually wnd up with several sets of wild bones by the end of the season.
I've made about a hundred and fifty calls this year. I hope that they account for at least that many birds.
Now I've started building box calls and shotgun shell trumpet calls also. It just might turn into a nice little business after all. ;D

Beautiful Calls Toby!!!!! You folks have to check them out. One good look and you'll see why I do not make baox calls or even wing bones. It would require talent and Toby has all that wrapped up....

Are you guys and gals all able to see all of Toby's pictures in this thread? If you are getting the box with an "X" please let me know. You see; all you should be able to see is the box with the X! It should not be working because I had to re-address his pictures! But; I still see them!
