"I guess all it took was a kick to the head to get him to realize that it is better to lead than to be stubborn."
Apply that same technique to your preaching and you might even get through to Phil! ;D

OK I'll tell. We (me and Lucas) we done where Rocky stays (at John Terrell Farms) working with him on one hot Saturday. You know how it is in the summer, hot and muggy. Well, he didn't want to lead to the corral fence where we tied him up to groom him. I pulled and pulled, and so did Lucas, as we tried to get Rocky to come over to the fence. You know how hard it is for a 45 year old man to move a 500 lb steer that don't want to go? IT AIN"T EASY! Well we got him almost to the fence when he started staggering like he was drunk. Then all of a sudden he fell down, just like he had died. My first thought was that I had pulled too much and that Rocky had had a heart attack due to the heat. I actually thought i had killed him. I mean his eyes rolled back in his head and all that. Now remember, this is my first time working with a steer and I don't really know what I am doing. Anyway, the steer is laying on the ground, me and Lucas both thought he was dying, and didn't know what to do. It just so happened that John, the owner, was there working with other cattle in his feed lot. I called him over, he looked at Rocky, then hauled off and kicked him right between the eyes. Rocky got up and walked over to the fence! John said it looked like he had just sullied up on us, being stubborn. Since then Rocky has led just about anywhere Lucas wants him to go. I guess all it took was a kick to the head to get him to realize that it is better to lead than to be stubborn. That is the story of how we got Rocky to led. Today, he is going to the county fair and we will show him Friday afternoon. I took the goats and the chickens up yesterday. Chickens will be judged tomorrow and the goat show is Thursday afternoon so if I am not on here much you will know why. going to be busy busy busy this week. Oh, boy. Not one of THEM steers! Those type don't come along very often, praise Jesus. I had a 2-yr old cow a couple of years ago that was the same way and did the same thing. Except, when I put the halter on and tried to coax her to lead, she'd lunge at me with both front feet. It was the first time I'd ever been actually afraid of a bovine. I pulled her about half way to our front yard and she just fell over. (Not the first time I've seen this from a cow.) Mike and Don went off the handle at me. I just let her lay there for a moment while I caught my breath then I took the lead strap and walloped her across the nose a time of two. She got up and lead like I'd been working her since she was a calf. *Note- First time I ever saw an animal pass out was at the All-American Dairy Show in '74 at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. The same day as the big fire that consumed the cattle barns. (Yep, I was there with the family and our cattle.) That heifer passed out in the show ring, but was still awarded 1st place.

The fair results are in!
Chickens - we took 4 pens of 4-H pullets. Each pen was made up of 4 chickens. One pen of white leghorns and 3 pens of brown leghorns. Blue ribbons on each pen. That means we were in the running for the grand champion but got beat out. Not too bad.
goats - We took 4 goats. They weighed 60, 53, 48, and 43 lbs. each. Anthony placed 2nd in the light-weight class with the 48 lber. Lucas placed 5th in the same class with the 43 lber. There were 5 goats in that class. In the next class Anthony placed 5th with the 53 and Lucas placed 6th with the 60. There were 6 goats in this class. With his 2nd place finish Anthony was guaranteed to be in the premium sale. Lucas was not.
steer - Lucas' steer, Rocky, weighed in at 550 lbs. In the light-weight feeder steer class he placed 4th. There were 6 steers in the class. The top 3 got to go to the premium sale, but some that finished above him decided to enter another animal in the sale. So Lucas moved up. I was very proud of him. For someone who had never showed cattle, he done very well.
Pictures will be posted as soon as I take some and get them downloaded.

Toby and Rogue have missed out! Here I was hoping to preform my first marriage on either one of them but they waited too long. Saturday evening, Lord willing, I will officially marry a couple. Y'all should have acted sooner. ;D

Marry a couple? You becoming a Mormon? You know what I mean. There isn't enough money in this world to get me to become a Mormon!

;D LOL! Well then how about sex, power, high office, or maybe a new Dodge RAM pick-up truck? ;D I know, how about a free hunt on Uncle Ted's reserve? I knew a Mormon kid named Barry. Couldn't wait for him to become an elder. (Badda bump bump!)

Nope, none of those. While each of those are nice, I can truthfully say I will never become a Mormon due to their heretical beliefs.

QUOTE: "Toby and Rogue have missed out!" Sorry Bro. Freddie...but Rogue is already married...married to the powerplant, and she runs around on me! ;D Shameless hussy! Started an overhaul and rebuild on Unit 1 on September 6th...will run through November 2nd. Gettin' mighty tired of the long hours and no time off. I hate being cooped up with that mess of male crybabies for more than a 4 day week at a time. Say a prayer for me that I will hold onto my temper and not get my BP too high...or worse yet...get a handful of somebody and choke the living Hades outta them! That is what some of 'em need...but not my duty to do it. The company frowns heavily on any kind of roughhousing, but one guy is cruising big time! Only reason he is still upright is I have the love of Jesus in my soul...my carnal side wants to throttle him! LOL! Get the mental image of a little angel on one shoulder and a little devil on the other? I did! Just stuck my head in to say howdy since I heard someone using my name in vain! -Rogue-

Oh no! I dodged that bullet a few times already....ya'll know about the last time I'm glad you'll gett o break the ice on someone else! I'm not ruling it out for the future, but I sure ain't going out of my way to make it happen. Personally though, I think Roguey oughtaget hisself hitched! We all know that boy needs a keeper or he's liable to get hisself kilt one of these days. Bees on the bike, slipping on the steps, and Lord knows what other accidents. Anybody know a single nurse??? All joking aside, when Barbie brought that up and I had to go meet with that priest, I had already told him I would be flying in my pastor from Arkansas to give him a hand! ;D

I know a soon to be single %$#@^&^%$%^&*(*&^ what calls itself a nurse but she might not be one much longer. Anyway if we go in the courtroom together when she comes out she won't be one no more. Cause, I'll tell!!!

UPDATE!
Monday night at basketball practice, Lucas caught a pass, and hurt his left pinky finger. Since there was a possibility it was broken, we had it x-rayed, and were told to come back today to have it reexamined.
I have had a sore on a certain place on my body that won't heal up. My dad had the same type of sore, and my mother told me that when he had a doctor look at it, they did some blood work and that is when they found out he was a diabetic. So Tuesday evening I had some blood work done and got the results back today.
The doctor told us that Lucas' finger wasn't broken and that it was probably just a bad jam. Then he looked over at me and I thought, Ut oh, here it comes, the bad news. Then he told me that my blood work came back great and that I didn't have diabetes. I almost fell out! I fully expected to hear that I had this disease since my dad and grandfather both had/have it and it is hereditary. He said my sore was probably a fungus, and gave me some ointment to place upon it. I am so relieved that I am not diabetic! Although, there is still the possibility that I will get this disease later on in my life.
AND THAT IS THE NEWS OF THE DAY!

That is great news; buuuuuuuut, if you are predisposed genetically,.... then to avoid it do what the doctor, nutritionist, cardiologist, endocrineologist, all say to do. Plenty of fresh green vegies, fruits, well balanced diet, lo fat, monitored carbohydrates, good mix of vitamins and minerals, keep the weight off, lots of cardio exercise plus weight training to develop body mass. I guarantee it is a lot easier to "not get it" than to control it. Mine is still a bitch and frankly I'm a bit worried about the next visit. Probably means insulin and that means I can forget about dropping anymore of this lard. Oh, and I hear that "total sexual abstinance" is one of the best preventive measures too!

Congrats on a good visit to the Dr! ;D
Yep, diabetes is a bitch to live with. Do what Paws says because he's right, better to avoid it than live with it.
How's the farming going?

We are supposed to order chicks before the last of this month. Not sure when they will be in, but I am going to order 50 per boy again. For you from Ohio, that equals 100 chickens.
Will get the boys a couple of goats around April and the steer will be ready sometime in May.
