I just wanted to pen a quick note and let everyone know that I may be a bit out of touch lately...more than usual. Now not to worry, I'm going to be fine...but I had a little accident today. I was working on the 4x4 today and forgot to reset the parking brake before I lowered it off the jacks. I ran over my own dadgummed ankle with my own darned Jeep! How stupid is that? Anyway, I broke a bone in my ankle and I will have to have a pin put in so it will grow back together. I imagine that will take place the first part of next week. I'm really not in pain so long as I don't try to walk on it...but can't get around very well...and I'm nine kinds of angry with myself for doing exactly what I get onto others about...being lax and getting in a gol-darned hurry. Gets ya hurt every time! I will try to hop down here from time to time and check email, but don't feel hurt if I'm a little slow in reply. Thanks for being understanding...my regards, -Bill- __________________________________________________

Supposed to have surgery Wednesday at noon. They are going to put that broken piece of bone back in position and fasten it with 2 stainless (or titanium) screws so it will heal right...more later.
Thanks guys!

Well from one who has had surgery recently to one who is going to. I hope everything goes well during both the surgery and rehab. My prayers are with you especially during this time and all others also.

Update:
Not sure how long I'll be laid up for certain, but I've heard from 4 to 6 weeks. Due to a SNAFU at the surgery center, I was scheduled for surgery tomorrow at noon, although the doctor had told me today at noon. They called from the surgery center this morning about 8:15 and changed it to today...at 10:30. I had to rush like a madman to get ready on such short notice...and darned lucky they caught me before I made breakfast or something.
Anyway, I have been sliced, screwed, stapled, splinted and sent home! Yippee! Have to go back tomorrow for dressing change, then back on Monday to get the staples out. They put two screws in to hold the broken piece in place until it heals. I'm not hurting too bad, and actually feels better than it did before they got everything back in the proper place.
More later...thanks for the continued good thoughts and prayers,
-Rogue-

Hey Paws...last thing I remember before lights out from the anesthesia was the people in the OR chattering like excited little snowbirds about my "impressive beard" and how thick and dense it was. I remember this one little brunette nurse stroking my beard and telling the other girl that I must take really good care of it because it felt like I used conditioner in it. Bet they thought I was asleep already. ;D So, when I woke up, I told her my secret...I use horse shampoo and conditioner on my beard since the hair is coarse like horsehair. "Mane & Tails" works great on human hair too...especially coarser hair. Not very expensive and works like the high dollar salon stuff. Beard is about 5-6 inches long overall...there is an international beard and moustache contest in Anchorage in the spring of 2009. People are trying to get me to enter the contest. We'll see.

Update: Went to the doctor today and he took a look at my leg/ankle and changed the bandage. Said things were looking pretty good, and I am to go back Thursday to have the staples removed. Absolutely no weight on that leg for 6 weeks...

People are trying to get me to enter the contest. We'll see. Rogue Warrior, Those people going to pay for the trip? What do you get if you win? snake-eyes Not sure what the prizes are...will have to ask my pal, Eldon (in Michigan), about all that...but in actuality...the way I detest travel, I probably won't make the trip. There is little chance of a ordinary yokel like myself winning anything at all. Some of the people who will be attending that have facial topiary that makes mine look downright ordinary. There are thousands of guys with a grizzled "Santa Claus" beard just like mine...nothing unique here. Just for giggles, look up Beard and Moustache Contests on your browser and look as some of the insane and downright bizarre moustache and beard styles some of those people wear. There is no way I would do that...no matter what the prize was.

UPDATE:
Thanks for the continued kind thoughts and prayers...
Got back from the doctor's office a little while ago. The x-rays show I am healing...but it will still be about 3 more weeks before they will let me walk on it. Am graduating to being able to stand on it a little as long as I'm stationary...and am now allowed to remove the boot cast when sitting around and starting to execise my ankle to get the range of motion back. It is stiff as the hubs of Hades right now, but the doctor said that is good...easier to loosen up a tight joint than tighten up a loose one. Said that shows I didn't tear up the tendons and ligaments. Good! 6 weeks of this house arrest crud is about all this old sasquatch can stand!
Supposed to leave for my nephew's place and spend the holiday there. My sis will drive us since I'm still not legal to drive with the cast on. Hope you all have a very nice holiday. I will talk to you when I get back...probably on the weekend after turkey day.
Friends,
-Rogue-

Have a Happy Happy, enjoy your family and holiday and mind the ol' saw bones... they seem to know what they're doing (some of the time) ....heck six weeks is a walk in the park...try it for six months with your leg completely covered in a 60# hard cast... TT

...try it for six months with your leg completely covered in a 60# hard cast... TT That's where I was 27 years ago after the car wreck...you are right...that was no fun at all. I was just telling my family the other day, how lucky I am that I only broke one ankle instead of both. Now that really would have bit a sour pickle! No matter how it seems, we all have things to be thankful for! -Rogue
