Would you guys please take a look at this site and tell me if one of you or Heather (your Father in-law) can manufacture something like this for me. What I have in mind is an outline of Ohio with the letters OCC running from from top left to bottom right inside the outline in more or less a branding iron configuration. www.texasirons.com/Detail.bok?no=147Thanks

How big/small do you want it? Steak-sized, or cow-sized?

I sent the link to him. If he doesn't e-mail me back, I'll be there this afternoon.

Well, here's what he said: Hmmm. The way those are made is they're machined out of aluminum or stainless steel and attached to a handle with a plate to help hold heat. It's not likely I could make them quickly in a 1" square size and certainly not economically. Doing it by hand would take hours and cost a lot. So -- could I do it? Yes. Would anyone want to pay for it? Ah, that's another question. Answer: Not likely. You might check with those folks and ask if they can make custom irons. They probably have them machined on a CNC mill and could program about any pattern--if they thought it'd pay. Another possibility is just a machine shop with a CNC mill. If things are slow, they might welcome some fill-in work. Still wouldn't be cheap unless you ordered enough to take advantage of quantity pricing, but could be lower than one might think.

Yeah, it all depends on if he wants one or a hundred. I could do a custom one (after I finish that darn squirrel cooker for him) if that was the order, but whole lots are beyond my scheduling right now.

Well an inch is pretty small, actually I would be happier with like 2 inch. But, yes I had it in mind for steaks, chili, bread, etc. (Maybe chasing the wife!) Initially I want one or two for myself and would like a source that might be interested in building them for others who would like one of them. I thought I might also use it to burn wood carvings, aprons, ballcaps , etc as OCC saleable mcdse so we could have an income source for benefits other than digging into somebody's pocket. I think that after I win the chile cook off and the national championship there will be a demand for our stuff! ;D Then we incorporate hire overpaid executives, take junkets to Vegas, and South Korea....

I like your plan, Phil, but what on earth would drive you to want a trip to S. Korea?? I spent my 14 months over there, it was enough.
Lemme see if I can make you a prototype brand... then we'll see how hard they are to do en masse.

That brand could also be bent out of 1/4" round stock, welded together. But in one offs, it would be expensive.
I occasionally do dinner bells (triangle type) in odd shapes for folks, and I charge everthing the traffic will bear.

Now by George, that's an idea! I had not thought of that!! A dinnerbell shaped like the outline of Ohio might just be what I'm looking for. ;D
