OK, folks I see a lot of ya'll eat out at lunch time, which is fine if the food and service are good... but what are some of your bestest places to eat..say lunch, breakfast and supper/dinner...
My favorite lunch spot used to be "Lum's" down on Broad St in Columbus...with "Grable's" in Urbana as my second choice...
For Dinner/Supper it was "Duff's" I also liked to go to the "Big Boy" in Springfield (which at the time was the only one that you could order a complete Supper/Dinner meal)
By far my favorite Breakfast spot was Whitey's Diner down on Rte 68 just south of Bellefontaine (he later relocated to Huntsville on old Rte 33) next would be the Bob Evans located on the Home Farm
Sadly these places are all gone (with the exception of BE's and it just aint the same)...
Reading the treads of "What's For----" just got me thinking about were I used to go...

Lums was great. I ate there many times during my college days. I also frequented The Blue Danube restaurant on High St north of OSU. It was affectionately called the "Blue Dube." It's still there, and now my son goes there quite a bit.
I also hit the White Castle once in a while, although for the life of me I don't know why! ;D
For breakfast, my most favoritist place is TJ's Country Place on North High St. Most times I go there, I order the creamed chipped beef. The pile a bunch of homefries on a couple biscuits, followed with a couple of over easy eggs, then cover the whole mess with a really great creamed chipped beef. Yum Yum! I wish I lived closer so I could get there more often.
Around home, it's mostly mom and pop places when we go out.

Well, there was Miller's Kountry Kitchen and LK both on US42. Miller's was south of Plain City and LK was at 42 & 33. Usually though, we'd hit Louigi's Pizza in Hilliard, Arthur Treacher's in Dublin, or the A&W in Delaware. In London, there was the Dixie Diner (still going strong) and a supurb chinese restaurant. Unfortunatly, when the old Chinese man died that owned it, the recipes went with him. It burned to the ground about '93 and was not rebuilt. On the road nowadays, it's USA Steak Buffet in Cambridge. Top of the line, fresh food there. Lots of fruits and veggies on the buffet and all-you-can-eat steak or chicken is included in the price of the buffet. If you're into desserts, you'll be in heaven! Very clean and family friendly. Mom was down last week. She does a lot of traveling and is extremely picky about the quality of the food she gets while dining out. Her pick is none other than our own local COOLSPOT!!! Especially the chicken livers dinner. BTW- Mom wants to know if any of you remember the Peppermint Lounge in Columbus. So what's up with that??? Guess that was before my time.

TT you can still drop by Bob and Jule's place. I got their address around here someplace. Jule's sister, Helen, worked with me up at Rickenbacker for about seven years there like 73 through 79 or something like that. Favorite eateries are Sol's Fine Food off 41A just below Fort Campbell across from the Clarksville Base entrance and back on the left. Next runner up is the Iowa Machine Shed outside of Davenport Iowa. They are world famous with good reason. Then you got the Clancy's Pizza in Washington DC which is open for lunch naked dancers and all! Buckeye Restaurant in Glouster probably is the very best all around value for eats and do a really respectable job on the meals. My cousin Traci is the cook and a darn good one. Then in Nelsonville you got The Coffee Cup which is really really good chow. Lapulapu City on Mactan Island is the Tagalog Restaurant. San Miguel over ice, special fried rice, dog on a log, stir fry and a lady for your lap too if'n you want. In Columbus it has got to be The Japanese Steak House, and Schmidt's Sausage Haus off Kosuth. ;D Ryan's Family Restaurants are next followed by Golden Coral, Waffle House, IHOP, the Shoney's.

Uhhhhh, I ain't positive but in 1975 I was going to some place where there was a dance floor, DJ and a whole lot of folk in bell botom pants, two or three color shoes, wide open shirt colors and a lot of gold chain bling bling! I had me a leisure suit in every color of the rainbow with patent leather shoes and belt to match! ;D

I love Shamrocks Family Restaurant in Floral City, Fl. for lunch and breakfast when I go out.
Most of my out to eat is fast food like McDonald, Burger King, or Checkers. I love the chicken places, but rarely stop by. It's hard to eat a chicken breast while driving.
Eating out for dinner is whatever seafood place comes to mind!

Toby you reminded me of a terrific seafood place named Admiral Ben Bow's. Problem is I can't remember where it is!

There is...or at least used to be...an Admiral Ben Bow's in Memphis. It's been a long time since I was back to Memphis, so I don't know if it's still there or not. I still say it's hard to beat Cracker Barrel for good homestyle food...and the nearest one to me is 200 miles away in Albuquerque! -Rogue-

I have tried Cracker Barrel a couple of times and it was decent but not exceptional (IMO) the "99" is good (service is very good) only problem I have with NE eateries is they always want to over cook your meat....were I grew up it was kill it, throw it on the grill and poke it, if it don't wiggle it's done .. Faith, I didn't know there were any L&Ks left...last one I was to closed up about 11 yrs ago (it was in Russel's Point by Indian Lake)...brings back some memories...helped build a few of them places..Dad was the forman on a bunch of those jobs...

Talked to Frank about an hour last night and he was telling me about a couple places around Las Cruces I've been to. He was at Lincoln and toured all the Billy The Kid stuff, up around Ruidoso at Inn of The Mountain Gods which is absolutely fabulous. No authentic Mex though; they aren't allowed across the border!

Faith, I didn't know there were any L&Ks left... I did say WAS. I think it shut down around '79. There is a motel at that location now.

Paws...tell Frank that he didn't come far enough north to get authentic Mexican food (that's right...North). Taco Bell is the same everywhere...and that ain't authentic Mexican food!!! I haven't frequented the southern part of the state in a while, but there are bound to be some Mom and Pop Mexican eateries nearly everywhere. My favorite one was Vera's in Chama...but Vera contracted cancer a few years ago and finally lost the battle. The restaurant changed owners after Vera's passing and I'm sad to say that it just isn't the same as it was. I dined with my brother and his wife at a restaurante that served delicious and passibly Mexican food last night. It is on the main drag through Farmington next to Hacienda Home Center, and is called La Fiesta Grande. The entree "El Pollo Monterrey" was delicious...chicken breast wrapped in bacon and flame broiled, then smothered in melted Monterrey Jack, a slice of tomato, a green (or red) chili pepper, and served on a bed of Spanish rice with a side of sweet corn and a garden salad with chopped peppers and ranchero sauce. The meal was topped off woth a huge sopapilla which I savored with honey as a dessert.
But if you want really authentic Mexican food, you have to make friends with a Hispanic American family with a surname like Cordova, Martinez, or Sanchez...those ladies can cook...and like the Italian ladies, they aren't happy until you are full! That is where I learned to cook Southwestern dishes like chalupas, carne ardovada, posole, El Pollo Chipotle, and all the other wonderful and fiery dishes. Lots of times, the dessert of choice is something with lime flavored jello (kind of like "frog-eye" salad with the pasta thingies and mini marshmallows). Note: There is a magic effect of the citric acid in lemon or lime deserts that neutralize the fire of peppers that were too hot and make you feel like your mouth is afire and your booty is catching. If you get hold of something that is too hot due to capsicum, grab lemon or lime juice!

Finding good Mexican food's pretty easy down here, but if you're looing for a real treat, get down to an authentic Cuban restaurant. Cubans have three things going for them; cigars, pretty women, and food! Give me a big plate of "Ropa Viejo con plantains y cebola" and a big tankard of rum. Mmmmm, mmmmmmmm!! I've eaten many times at the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City and there is nothing like a cuban sandwich from La Segundo bakery, also in Ybor City. Oh....thinking about it's now got me craving deviled crab, stuffed potatoes, and garbanzo bean soup..... Lord forgive, I nearly orgasmed just then. I gotta go!

Toby... ...that translates to "An old man's clothes with wild bananas and onions"...are you sure that is edible? Can your read this? "En un lugar de la Mancha, de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme, no ha mucho tiempo que vivía un hidalgo de los de lanza en astillero, adarga antigua, rocín flaco y galgo corredor...... " I'll tell you what it is later...but you should already know. :-{p} -Rogue-

"...that translates to "An old man's clothes with wild bananas and onions"...are you sure that is edible?" Ha, ha, that's exactly what it translates to, but don't ask me why they call it that. What it is, is shredded beef broiled in a mojo sauce with lot peppers, served over a bed of yellow rice cooked with slices of red and green peppers. Some fried Plantain on the side and a large sweet onion sliced or diced to be put on top of the ropa viejo to taste. I swear Bill, it's a symphony of flavor and a real treat! :-[You got me Roguey! My espanol has it's limits. I can understand and speak it way better than I can read and translate it. It makes my head hurt. The quotes something about removing a spot or stain from the garment of a nobleman from a spear or lance... something, something... greyhound corridor??? Sorry bud, you gots to tell me.

Actually, it sounds darned delicious given it is not "ol' Koot's" socks with a little salsa on them! ;D (Steve, I just had to get you into this! ) About the Spanish text I left...That was a little brainteaser...the first few lines of a famous novel, originally written in Spanish dating from the 17th century...translated: "In some village in La Mancha, whose name I do not care to recall, there dwelt not so long ago a gentleman of the type wont to keep an unused lance, an old shield, a greyhound for racing, and a skinny old horse."Which were the opening lines to "Don Quixote" by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. It is considered to be the first modern novel in a western language. And that concludes my literature lecture for the day -Rogue-

If it's good enough for that sexy little chef, you know I ain't joking about it. It's one of my all-time favorites. Ya'll ever think about last meals? You know, like death row prisoners get before they visit "Old Sparky". You ever thought about what you'd ask for? I have and that'd probly be mine. Next runner up would be meatloaf, smashed taters, macaroni and cheese, and yeast rolls.
