I just wanted to know if anyone else uses or has seen this product. It is called the Ultimate Turkey Roaster and is made by Camp Chef. www.ultimateroaster.com/It is a cast iron dutch oven with a cone in the middle. Works like a convection oven. The Mud Duck gave it to me for my birthday 2 years ago. I got the full kit which comes with the gas cooker. Cabelas also carries these and have seen them at Menards(not sure if everyone has them in their area.). Mine works pretty dang slick! Thou I have not tried it I think you could us this with charcoal. What I like about it is that there is no oil to mess with. It also comes with a thermometer that you can read outside of the pot so you don’t need to lift the cover. You can also use it on your gas range in your house! The only problem that I have had with it is that I do not think I got it completely seasoned all the way when I first tried to cook a turkey breast in it. The bird came out nice and juicy, but had a very bad “gassy-fumey” taste to it. I scrubbed the cooker out again and re-seasoned it for a long time. The next to birds I did came out excellent!!! One was my buddy’s wild turkey he got. Just awesome!!! If you go to the site it will give you all the specs and other recipes. It also has its own forum page with people from Camp Chef on it. I just want to add that I have to affiliation to the product or company. Just really like my cooker and want to share this with others who enjoy cooking outdoors with cast iron. Let me know what ya think about it. Duff

I've seen these advertised in several places...haven't looked at one close up...on your first attempt you evidently didn't get all the parrafine out of it...how big of a bird can you roast in one of these things (whole) ? I couldn't find it dimensions in the ads....Being that it's cast iron I don't think that there would be a problem using charcoal

The biggest bird I have cooked was about a 13# it says it will hold a 20#. As for the not cooking off all the parrafin I think your right. Just didn't season it long enuf. I will also add that there is an upper cooking rack that you may buy extra for this cooker. It fits over the cone. I've seen it in their catalog. When I called to order it, I asked why it wasn't online. I was told that there wan't room for it on the web page. I have not yet ordered the rack but maybe I can have the Mud Duck buy it for me for my B-Day. ;D

This looks like a real nice cooker all right. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't handle charcoal. Just remember that the design may limit or restrict possibly even prevent rotation of the lid and bottom during cooking. Also be very sensitive to weather conditions. There is an awful lot of surface area there to put up with wind, rain, etc.

Several years ago, a local store had a closeout on the CampChef turkey cooker and burner combo. I use the burner often and find it more convenient than the big CampChef stove, but I've never used the turkey cooker. I do use the smaller size CampChef UDOs and find that they are tricky to use with charcoal. Several users have told me that I will get better and more consistent results using them with the gas burner. My favorite roaster is the Volcano Big Dutch Oven used with the large size Volcano stove. www.volcanostoves.com/Dutch_Ovens/Big_Dutch1.html

, but I've never used the turkey cooker. K-Bob- I think that you should try the cooker, at least with a turkey first using the gas burner. I does a great job. Make sure that you have a long enuf thermometer so it sticks out the pot. Another thing I learned is line the bottom of the cooker with foil for easy clean up and make sure there is a little bit of water in it to for clean up. Duff
