Mark ups are generally higher on the internet because most of the dealers do not handle their own stocks. They have your order "drop shipped" either from the factory, outlet, or a larger retail operation. Since they order their inventory "one at a time" they do not get wholesale discounts. Of course they don't have to build a warehouse either! ! Wally World stores handle Lodge and lthe prices there run about average I would say. Some have better inventories than others.

Steve, this Wal-Mart by me must be behind the times, or its not a high profile item, because I walked the store and didnt find any inventory..I even went to WalMart.com....and found nothing.....maybe some managers have permission to order outside the company confines.....KMart, has Martha Stewart cast iron for a good price, but with an inventory, comes lower prices because its chain wide......I guess I dont really know what a good price is then because Amazon .com seemed to be cheaper to me then some other sites Ive seen..........

The Wally World's arounf here carry the Lodge stuff and at a pretty good price. Some of the store do carry certain things that other do not. When I asked why, all they told me is " cuz it's whatever they send us. We have no control." They said that they have tried to order certain things and they wont ship it to them.

Steven lpricewise; fry pans of good quality in vintage Wagner up to 10 inches run around ten to twelve bucks. Griswold same size 15 to ?? depending on specific rarity. Lodge and Camp Chef brand new items will go for around 10. Larger fry pans say 12 to 14 inch deals will be around 20 to 30 for Wagner or Lodge and Camp Chef. Add another 10 to 15 for lids. Dutch ovens around number 8 size will run around 30 bucks for Wagner, Lodge, and Camp Chef up to several hundred for a rare Wagner or Griswold. Chuck Wagons cost more for some reason. Wagners up to 75 for a number 8 to 10, Griswold several hundred, Camp Chef and Lodge around 60. Keep an eye on the old E-bay cause some good deals can be had there. Just remember that shkipping is pretty high because of the weight. Some of the stuff I have has run $15.00 bucks to ship the slow way!!

Here is a link to the Lodge factory. Their prices are very competitive. Remember they have the pre-seasoned line now and they do it the same way we do only on a much grander scale! ;D www.lodgemfg.com/

Keep an eye on the Griswold, Wagner, Wapak, and Lodge pieces on Ebay and the WAGS site Steven. Get a good feel for what is a good price and maybe even get one or two of Dave Smith's books to bone up and then wander the flea msarkets and antique malls. I've seen lots of good iron in the antique malls for way too low prices.

All kinds of cooking festivals down here, especialy in the fall. In the spring we have the ramp festivals and here before long is the local big shindig called the Apple Festival. Of course over by the Lodge factory they have Octoberfest and an Indian thing or two. Then there's Smoky Mountain Knife Works and Dollywood over that way. Oh and of course several hundred thousand acres of forest to play on. I'm sure Shiloh could come up with some historical areas as well.

Just acquired a Lodge "Fat Free" square skillet and a Lodge corn Bread Skillet. Both are Lodge Logic and were Christmas gifts last Christmas. Yes I know, and I did just get around to looking at them. Both had acquired rust and need to be cleaned and seasoned.
