Blueberries! Don't ya just love them?
I've got a buddy that tried to get me into blueberry farming a few years ago and I resisted because of the start up cost and I really wasn't sure about the market.
Well, being so far south, our berries down here ripen first so for a couple of weeks these Florida berry farms have pretty well got the market to themselves. After only three years, he just sent a thousand flats to the packing house and averaged thirty-eight bucks a flat! Not bad for only twelve hundred plants.
So, the fat man here is going into the blueberry business! I've got room for about a hundred trees and my Dad's giving me room for another few hundred. Getting the water system in's going to be the biggest expense after the trees themselves, but what the heck. It might be a nice way to help pay for my hunting trips!
I just ordered my first hundred of the Florida high bush Jewels variety. It'll work out great too because two farms down is a bunch of bee hives, so I don't have to worry about pollenation either.

Oh boy!!!! Blueberries. I just might have to make a trip down in a year or so. I'll be easy to ID. Just look for a gal that looks like that girl from Willy Wonka. You'll find me passed out, swollen and blue under a bush!! ;D ;D
