I've had some chilis, and some habs. frozen in a ziplock baf for 3 years now. other than a little frost on some of them they look ok.
Does anyone know of a reason why I shouldn't use them?
To throw away or to keep and repackage with the foodsaver? That is the question!

I dont think they can kill you but I suspect them too have lost most their potency and flavor......That says alot to people like us who like their food kicked up a notch as Old Emiril would say.....

Thanks Steve.
I keep bell peppers in the freezer throught the year and they dont seem to loose flavor.
These hot ones kinda got lost in the bottom of the freezer. I'll try 'em out and see how they work.
Honestly, I dont even grow habs anymore because the folks I occasionally feed don't like things quite that hot. So maybe these will be ok for them now.

They will not lose a lot of flavor but they will lose heat. They will be a bit mushy when you thaw them too.

Can't speak for flavor, but I know Paws is right about the mushy part.
I'd pitch them.

I can handle the mushy part since they will be used for cooking. I wont be eating them raw or putting them in salsa.
Tahnks for the info fellers

I chop them up out of the garden and combine them with chopped onions to use with fried potatoes and in omelets . They aren't that bad. I mean hell if I'll use a tomato that might have had a cat piss on it...

Come to think of it Phil, Ol' Tank my JRTerrier lifts his leg pretty often on the tomato plants. I wash them always! ;D Did you use them GQ? How was the flavor vs the heat? Notice anything good or bad about them? Ya got me mildly curious.

Put 'em in a blender with some garlic and onion and use it as a green chili paste.
Fry the chili paste in a little butter and then ad some burger as a chili-starter.
Dip tortillas in it then fry them in peanut oil, drain on paper towels, then layer bean dip, meat, lettuce & cheese to make a gordita.
or
You can use the paste for enchiladas - Dredge tortillas in the paste, roll up with meat and cheese, put the rolls in a baking dish, douse the whole thing with more sauce - top with shredded cheese and bake at 350 for 20 - 25 min.

LOL! If you are into verde I got a couple salsa recipes using bits of habaneros and green chiles that are just perfect for fish and chicken dishes. You know if you add a couple more skewers to those burgers in just the right place you can claim they are New Mexican patriot burgers!

No!!!! Look at the pattern you have in the picture. You are only a couple sticks away from making the New Mexican state flag.
