Pssst! Paws, You really thinking of buying a restaurant?
I'd surely come and give it a try! I might even get my wife to come, but just don't name it " Paws Place". My wife would confuse it with one of them Chinese places and wouldn't go near the place. ;D ;D ;D

Well if I can get my miscreant cousins employed I may call it a Big Prick and a couple of Nutz!! ;D Salt, egg shells?? Anyone know what that is for?? Steve the pot is washed when I put the kitchen to bed for the night. You should have heard the NCOs howel in the PI when I scrubbed their fifty cupper with Old Dutch cleanser!! ;D That nasty pot was SOOOOO overdue a scrubbing!! My response was that as long as I was making the coffee; I was doing it my way! I think maybe that was the first time they had run into an E-3 with backbone!!

I don't know, but i suspect the egg shells do the same as would the salt..I use it for two reasons, one.. it seems to cut the bitter oils and two.. it lifts or brightens the flavor of the coffee it's self...no need to doctor it using this method...(cream and sugar)...

Bingo, straight, right on!! ;D Egg shells are made of lime. Coffee beans have an inherant acid which is off set or neutralized by the alkaline salt or the lime in the egg shells. Through experimentation over hundreds of years the proper formula appears to be two eggshells per 35 to 50 cup pot! Now who would wager a guess as to how this was probably discovered originally??

here's a maybe...Juan V...after figuring out what coffee beans were for was fixing his supper on the trail one evening but only had enough water to either boil them two eggs he snatched from the bird's nest earlier or make coffee ...as the water started to boil he thought hey, just maybe I can do both at the same time...and hense putting the egg shells in with the grounds...(short version ;D)

I suppose the next question would need to be who the first fella was who thought it might be a good idea to take an egg, seeing where it camefrom, and stick it in his mouth!

I once cut the tip of my finger off cutting frozen butter. A little tip (pun intended) pepper is a natural coagulant and it does not hurt when you put a little on a cut. Honestly, that is what made it possible to sew the tip of my finger back on!!

According to popular theory, primitive man stumbled upon the death scene of some pre-historic beast that had befallen a burning death. Reaching out and touching the burned animal he burned his finger and quickly stuck it in his mouth. He liked it! From that point on man began to to submit his meat to fire whenever it might be available. Undoubtendly he noticed the beneficial effects of the warm blaze along with the desired effects of cooking his meat and the quest for fire began! Here is a link for the beginner: kidshealth.org/kid/stay_healthy/food/look_at_cooking.htmlIt is written for kids; but, don't laugh. There is an awful lot of solid basic information here that old Ooglablock needed before he stuck his finger in that burned dinosaur 70 bazillion years ago. Discussion: What kinds of accidents have you experienced while cooking or just being in the kitchen? How might they have been prevented? I can only venture to guess that cooking flesh was taught to Adam by God when he taught him about animal sacrifice to cover his sins. Which isn't specifically mentioned as such but very well could be related to the events of: Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

quite the thread here, finally checked it out. See I am not the only one half dangerous with a knife. I don't cut myself in the kitchen but I usually bleed a little butchering up my game. Altho knock on wood, been several years since I nicked my left hand - guess I finally have the length of my boning knives blades down. And the next one I liked = picture a prehistoric Paws, been wandering the hills for many days with no grub, sore footed, lost his club and broke his spear. Well he comes upon a chicken and rather than kill it for one meal maybe he can streatch if for a couple, he says to himself - "self, I am going to eat the next thing that comes out of that chicken's ass". Good thing it was an egg..... For sanitation in the field I pour a little bleach in my sprayer, couple tablespoons at most to my gal of water. For coffee I have a little 7 cup aluminum percolator that I have made many gallons in over the years. I set it up the night before within reach of my cot or sleeping bag. Fill to just under the basket, dump in 2 heaping coffee measures of fresh ground coffee and set it on the burner. When my alarm goes off I stick out an arm, grab the lighter and light the burner, then go back to sleep for 10 to 15 minutes. When the coffee starts percolating I turn down the heat and get up and get dressed. When it has perc'd for 15 to 20 mins it is time to drink. I save my grounds for the starter for the next days, just keep dumping in more. Come the 3rd day when I can't fit any more grounds in I fling out the old ones and start again. I have a couple of hand-crank grinders I use. One for truck camping trips and one for backpacking trips. I will grind up a couple days worth of coffee before I head out but I always have spare beans with me too.
