I know that I like them with raisens and soft and chewy rather than hard or crisp.

Gotta find it first. I have a recipe for a big, soft oatmeal cookie that's loaded with butter, raisins, chocolate chips and black walnuts. When I did the farmers market circuit, I'd sell them at $1 each and could never make enough. I find whatever recipe I use, the secret to a soft cookie is BUTTER that's creamed with the sugar and eggs till super fluffy and taking them out of the oven just a tad bit early. They set up to a soft cookie as they cool.
