Othmar, Send me your address on my e-mail and I'll send you a lure to try out. It'll cost you a picture of you and the fish you cacth with it. Paws is right about making the Bass angry to make them bite. They are a real predator. If a bait is just sitting there they may swim up and look at it for 3 or 4 minutes at times. But as soon as you give it a little twitch, or jerk, they will attack it and try to swallow it. Your right also, as the days get longer in the spring, they will move towards the shallower water, when the sun is high, you can find them at the edge or just inside the shade line of trees and logs. Also, flat under the log. One of my favorite games is to take a palstic worm, and ease through the lilly pads. Then I just drop the bait down into the little holes in the pads and bounce it around a bit. This is where the heavy line comes in. You almost have to winch them in. I'll also throw the plastic worms over a downed log and work it upto the log then gently drag it over the top to let it drop as it clears the log. They'll hit it as it drops over the log. As you fish them more and more, you'll discover that alot of the tricks you use for trout will also work on Bass. They like spinners, flies, big baits and small. Gaudy colors too,, bright and bold. Email me your address and I'll send you a little sumpthin' sumpthin' to get you started. It'll be real easy to use. Just toss it out there and give it a little twitch so it makes a "blurp" on the surface. as soon as the ripples settle down a bit, twitch it again. When the bass comes up and grabs it let him go for a full second and set the hook. Just like fishing top water for pike or musky. Oh yeah, you have to have fun if your useing one of these lures. They don't work right if your not having fun. ;D Thank you Brian that is very kind to let me try one of your lures. My address is in your "In Box". You bet. As soon I catch one of this suckers I will send you a photo to post here. Talked to a bass fisher here and he said because nobody here likes bass they don't get fished much. Hence they are not spooky at all. He also said that because of this fact a 8lb to 10lb bass is very common here. Also thanks to everyone else for the tips on bass fishing. Brian is right, if it is fishing or hunting, you got to have fun. If it where not fun I would not do it and play golf instead. ;D

Golf/ GOLF? ? You got something caught in your throat Othmar??? The way I get that stuiff loose is to get a little water behind it or if need be, I reach on in and knock it loose. I'm thinking a Poper like Freddie got and a crankbait like Toby's Brother got. They should give you a good start. What do you folks think? OH yeah, Toby, I sent Paws that picture of the kids with there fish. Actually I just forwarded you e-mail. If it's ok with you, I hope we can post it here. I think the folks here would get a big kick out them smiles. OH yea, I got a new lure on the way to Fred ASAP. It'll be out of some better wood than the balsa and be sturdier. I should have thought of that when I sent the first set. I apoligize. I'll get it out in next weeks UPS run.

A popper is a must have! When the conditions are right, nothing is deadlier on bass. Later, I would suggest some soft plastics, a crankbait or 2, a few spinner baits in different colors and different topwaters.
I took my lures out this weekend ( the poppers) but no luck. The bass are bedding and I had to switch tactics. Maybe in a few weeks the water will warm up enough so that they will hit the poppers ;D

You bet they look familiar! Them grins is all due to Brian's generosity! He knew Fred was on a quest to get some new fishin' plugs so Brian donated a few custom jobs to Fred's tackle box.
I don't know if he was more proud recieving the lures or catching these bass on them. The biggun', seven and a half pounds, is at the taxidermists even as we speak!
It was caught by Melissa, Fred's older sister, on a balsa wood, topwater plug about three inches long and painted orange and green with reflective tape running down each side, fished over submerged grass beds.
Fred's little feller was caught on a balsa bodied spinner type cranked alongside a grass bed in about two feet of water.

There is nothing like two kids smiling each with a fish they caught themselves. Nice fish too.

I spent all day today playing catch up on the lures. I actually got about 15 finished out. Still haven't put the hooks on but, figure I'll put them on as they get boxed for shipping. I'll get the pictures taken as soon as I can. This will be the last batch that is not signed or numbered. I figured Ol' Phil and some others may have a point in what they keep telling me. However, these do have sparkles, metal guliding, paint and a killer finish on them.

Finaly went out and tried Brians lures yesterday evening along with every other lure I have and even nightcrawlers. Not a bite. Time to start using the BOOM and scoop method of fishing. ;D

It'll take a few days for them to settle back down after that series of fronts moving through Mars. Brian, only the big meeting, the tax man, cutting the grass, and paying April bills are between me and cutting maple!

Sorry folks, I been lacking a little lately. I'll get some more pictures as soon as I can. The lures and other things I'm playing with right now are a bit different if you will. I found a way to combine fishing, hunting, and keeping the Mrs. happy all in one. I've made a couple lure, pendant and earring sets out of deer antlers. Think about it, get to hunt to get horns so you can have fishing lures and she can have jewelry. These pieces are what I refer to as "REDNECK PEARL". I promise, I'll get my stuff together and this upto date as soon as I can. ;D

Here's the Ohio GT fishing kids. Both are our kids! Lana Martin Rob didn't get a chance to go out. He said that's OK because he had more fun listening and learning from all of us BS-ing "grown ups".

Nice pictures. I can't help it but it makes me happy to see young people go fishing and, or hunting. It's the future of our sport. I am looking forward to receive the lures from Brian. But don't hurry, take your time. It's like Paws, said. If it becomes a must do, then the fun and joy of it blows right out the window. The joy of a hobby it that you can do it when it feels right and not because you have to do it. That is the reason why a hobby is more relaxing than a job.
