Nice pictures. I can't help it but it makes me happy to see young people go fishing and, or hunting. It's the future of our sport. I am looking forward to receive the lures from Brian. But don't hurry, take your time. It's like Paws, said. If it becomes a must do, then the fun and joy of it blows right out the window. The joy of a hobby it that you can do it when it feels right and not because you have to do it. That is the reason why a hobby is more relaxing than a job. I think perhaps that's why Mike and I have a disliking for fishing. It was part of our daily drudgery of chores when we were young and we don't want to relive some experiences. We still have fun watching others reel them in. But better someone else than us. I'm glad our kids are taking a true liking to fishing.

The good news is Othmar, I have your lures carved, painted and the metal on them. Right now they're out there hanging up and drying with the clear coat. Well, the first coat of clear. Only 3 or 4 more coats to go. ;D The bad news is that they probably won't get done till after I get back from Chris's place. So next week or so they should be on the way..... ;D

But now I feel all of a sudden like it is Christmas again. ;D Thanks Brian.

Othmar, I got your lures done but I've got one small problem. It seems I some how deleted the e-mail you sent me with your address. Could you please send it to me again?? My e-mail is Brikatw1@Yahoo.com and I'll get them out to you via UPS. They say I need the physical address as they will not deliver to a P.O. box. Thanks, Brian

I took a small break from reeling in all them shellcrackers to pitch that knotheaded "Toby" lure you built me. I retrieved it like a Rebel topwater, in short bursts. It snatches to the left with a nice little "plunking" sound and on the second cast, WHAMO! All hell broke loose! He was laying in three feet of water on the edge of a lilly field. He wasn't no monster, but he fought like he thought he was. I had Fred snap a picture of me holding him. I caught six more that were about the same size, but only got a picture of this one since he was the first on the new lure. I wouldn't let Fred try his in this small lake because of all the lilly pads. If you knew Fred, you'd know that's a recipe for losing plugs. He gets to bass fish in fairly open water! I'll e-mail the picture to your e-mail address since I don't know how to do it here. Thanks bro! ;D

I got it Toby. Looks great! I think I have the formula figured out now. You got to give a guy that's a little off kilter a lure that goes a little off kilter. That way they balance each other out.... Just kidding Pal. Chris's is the same way as Fred. He can hang a lure on something even if you put him 2 miles off shore on a windless day. ;D

Hey Brian,
Could I make a slight suggestion? On your Pop-R's, is there sny way you could put a rattle in itand maybe a feather on the back treble hook?

I fractured the spinal column a few days ago and cannot got out of the house. It's a pain sitting for to long, or laying down for two long, never mind standing for more than 2 minutes or driving a car.

Those are good ideas Freddie. I do put the feathers on the back hook sometimes however, until I learn to tie them myself, I have to buy them. Kind of pricey at almost $6 for 2 and the only colors the Bass Pro has are red and white. One of the kids at work is showing me how to tie them so it may become a standard feature before long. If you want to add one on to yours, you can take a pair of needle nose pliers and open the ring on the back. Be sure to hold the wood with your fingers as close as you can to the eye and gebtly open the eye hook. The swap out with the feathered hook of your choice. I've also been thining of the rattlers for the lures. I just have to work out on each one where to put it for balance. I'll work on it, you want to nbe the test pilot???... Brian

Today Brian sent me an email announcing that he sent the lures for me today. From now on until I hold them actually in my hands I wont get much sleep. Heck it's like Christmas is coming early to me this year. There are no words to describe how happy I am about Brian generosity and so a humble thank you will have to do. Now if my back would stop playing up and listen what I tell him I could go fishing sooner rather than later. ;D Once I can try out the lures I will give you a review here and one on my hunting and fishing blog outdoorswithothmarvohringer.blogspot.com/ including a link to here so hopefully more people will order lures from you.

I just had to add your site to my favorites again Othmar. You should see your lures in 3 to 7 buisness days. I like them beer cap lures too. I've been playing around a little bit with making a duck call or 2. I carved out a head and neck from cypress, drilled, sanded and finished it. My buddy at Haydel's gave me the quacker to go on it. It's drying right now. It sounded real nice when I tried it before I finished the wood. I hope it still does when it's dried. Anyways, I'll send in a picture when it's done so y'all can see how the experiment came out. ;D

We tracked down Paws this morning and he presented us with the lures you made for the kids GT fishing contest. Well, the picture of them looked nice. But to actually see them... WOW!!! They're gorgeous!! ;D ;D Do I have to give them to the kids? I might just take up fishing again!

Miss Faith, I just make them and supply them for the contest. What the parants do with their kids ain't my buisiness. Besides, them hooks are awful sharp. It could be a safety issue you know....

Kids are coming home next weekend. That only gives me a week to get down to the banks of the Ohio and try them out! Then the kids can have them. ;D

Finally I have the article about Brian's fishing lure and game call carving written and published. Meet Brian WarnerJust over a year ago I met Brian Warner on the Ohio Camp Cook Forum. Brian has been an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman for all of his life, or at least as far back as he can remember. He tells me that as a child he would use hand-me-down rods and reels to fish. That sounds familiar. I guess most hunters and fishermen started out that way. Brian also discovered his passion for wood carving and that is where this story begins. You can read the full article at Outdoors with Othmar Vohringer outdoorswithothmarvohringer.blogspot.com/2006/07/people-meet-brian-warner.html
