I was going to post earlier that the bear returned and killed 4 of my chickens and busted up my chicken coop but as I was typing my daughter ran into the house yelling the bear was out back.
I shot it with a gun this time though my daughter did get a picture over my shoulder seconds before I pulled the trigger. I couldn't find it before dark but a neighbor is coming over in the morning to help me look for it. I did find blood from the bear and the remains of my chickens and turkeys. I have a kill tag from the CO that came over but I have to call them if I find the bear.

We looked for 3 hours this morning and did not find him. Several of the neighbors are still looking.
There is a good blood trail from my yard across the creek and up the ridge. About 80 yards total. At the top of the ridge we cannot find a drop of blood, a hair or a track. Nothing.

She has in fact matched my military awards, 9 ribbons, 5 medals and is an E-4 and she found out today that the CMP(civilian marksmanship program) is awarding her a bronze medal which she is "proudly" announcing that she will exceed my awards.
She has also been given the job of assistant armourer and on Wednesday she starts training on assembly/disassembly and repair of the air guns they use.
With all her awards and trophies she has filled her trophy shelf and I need to put up a new one for her.

Man, what a day. The VA once again took my tax refund. I called them and got nothing but a run around. For those that remember, the VA took my refund 2 years ago over a bill that I refused to pay because they charged me for a service connected injury. They took out their $100. and I eventualy recieved the balance of the tax refund. It seems they had a 4-6 week period that it took them to process the "payment" so it accrued an interest of $1.47 that was not paid. That $1.47 is now $44. and they once again took our tax refund. That's gotta be one heck of an interest rate! Anyway, they tell me it for services from a doctor at the VA I don't even know and is on the "blue team" but I was on the red. They tell me it was for hypertension and my left knee. I tell the guy that I was never treated at the VA for my blood pressure and never went there for that and the knee is service connected. He says the knee was not listed as service connected. I told him they need to send me the reason they are saying it is not service connected because it is and the burden is on them to prove otherwise. He says they have no such information as it was never listed as service connected. I told him that they had to decide it wasn't in order to bill me and I want the information they used to make that determination. The burden is on them to prove it isn't service connected and if they cannot then they cannot charge me for it. I told him I want everything to include payments and interest rates applied. I'll see what they send. Then I get a notice that my mortgage payment is going up $38. a month. I call them and they say it is because my insurance and taxes went up. So I go talk to my agent. The insurance is not due for 2 more months and they haven't sent a bill out and it is not going up a penny. Taxes went up $100. a year. Definetly not a $38. a month increase. I call the mortgage company back and the song and dance started. First it was my insurance did go up. I told them it did not and how would they know since the bill hasn't even been sent out. They said they sent the payment out anyway which made my escrow account short since they sent it out 2 months early. He then says the insurance did go up. I ask him what did they just sent out. He says $635.. I then ask what was paid out last year. Guess what, it was $635.. I tell him that is not an increase no matter what type of math he is using. He then, catch this, that it went up the YEAR BEFORE from $470. and that is the increase. I told him yes that is an increase and the reason they raised my payment $20. a month last year. He then tells me that they "LIKE" to have a $200. "BUFFER" in the account. I tell him the math doesn't add up. The taxes went up $100. and my payments went up $38. a month. 38x 12 = $456.. I asked him what they plan on doing with the extra $356. a year and how much interest I'm going to get for their "buffer". He went into a nonsense rant about the insurance did go up and I told him I will just go get another mortgage from somebody else and hung up. My insurance agent thinks they are trying to scam me into paying for foreclosures and the banks loss and they didn't think I would catch it. Ever get the VA squared away Mars?

No shelves. She doesn't want to give up the wall space occupied by her wolf blanket and posters.
I took my wife and mother to North Carolina today and did some "gem mining". Lots of quartz and topaz and other junk. We did find several emeralds and I found one that was good enough to be cut so my wife is having it made into a pendent. 2 others are being polished for us. We also found 2 big rubies but they are junk red rocks. Oh well.
My wife found a piece of black obsidian with gray stripes that she is also having made into a pendent and it's going to be huge. Kinda looks like a black tigers eye.
I am having a nice piece of citrine polished as well.
We are going back Tuesday with our daughters.

So good to hear that not all states have gone the way of Ohio's hunter's ed course. By the time our boys took their's, it was a 12 hour course and the live fire was done away with. All they had to know was to wear blaze during deer season, and what gauges of shotgun are on the market. Mike and I both had to go through a two week course that covered everything from hunting regulations, variations of the regulation based on zone, trapping, archery and firearms and we didn't pass unless we could demonstrate proficency and safety in all parts. Didn't matter if you were only going out for bunnys, you had to know it all.

This was the short and sweet version. 9 hours in the classroom at 3 hours a day for 3 days vs. the normal 15 hours over 5 days. Then they take the test and do the live fire. It is exactly the same as when I took it in high school back in 1981 including the exact same videos.
They don't cover trapping but they cover everything else you mentioned.
The CO that I had a run in with during bear season was the instructor but he wasn't the one that I had a problem with. Yes, he knew who I was and my daughter still passed.

Man, I did mine in 1964 and it sounds exactly the same. Wet fire was optional if you wanted to waste a Saturday at the range.

Sorry Snake but it's your age that exempts you from taking the course not that you have been hunting that long.
