;)Athens county Farmers' Market at the University Mall is having a cook off thing Saturday the 28th. You got to register by the 25th and make your recipe at home using at least three ingredients sold at the market. There are just two categories; sweet and savory. Registration forms are available at the market today, Saturday and next Wednesday. For more details call Joe Berman at 593-6213. I'm thinking about submitting a couple of dishes.

OK. So go through the market and make me a list of each vendor and what they're selling. That way I can write up any recipe I might enter accordingly. Oh. Never mind. Church probably has me signed up to sing somewhere that weekend. Yep, I've been singing too. Trying to do gospel in Aretha Franklin-style is quite a vocal challenge for this chain smoking farm gal.

I finally got registered so I will be very busy Saturday with the cookoff, church clean-up and dinner at the Legion. Friday I guess will be clean=upday here at the house and gardening. I went with a salsa recipe as the meat guy was not there today. I ended up buying a decorative multicolor pepper bush with small very mi8ld peppers that look like a twin for Thai peppers; well the red ones anyway. I got apricots, tomatoes, cilantro and the peppers as well as some young red onions that are nearly as sweet as Vidalias. They should make a great color combination together with the pink tomatoes, multi color peppers, green cilantro, and red and purple onion. I'll get tequilla peppers planted and some low acid yellow tomatoes cause guess what;...... (Humming Jeopardy theme song......) I've decided to open a flea market here complete with produce stands, hotdog stand with brats, burgers, snacks drinks, and if I can talk the Major into it ..... Oh and live music too... If my figures are right it should turn around a grand a week during the Spring Summer and Fall. I figure with the meat shop across the field and two riding acadamies on the street I should be able to draw in a few folk anyhow. Going to turn my little house into a General Store/antique boutique and take stuff on consignment. It'll double up for bathroom and cold drinks during flea market season. Sooooo. everybody wish me luck!

I going to turn my little house into a General Store/antique boutique Just you remember, when I stop by, nothing is an antique as long as it can be skillfully used by the purchaser for its manufactured purpose. Ain't none of this turning a food mill, pastry blender, mandolin, or knuckle buster into dust collecting "art" then going out and spending more $$ on a Cuisinart crap.

Yes I did. The next one is October 11 and the ingredient is "apples" . That's going to be a dandy. There are already over a dozen contestants and most are pros.
