As I'm sure Phil can attest to, we have just a wee bit of poison ivy on our rocky top. Between all the work we've done in the woods, picking berries in the thickets, and general roaming the woods to see what's out there, the boys and I have been fighting the itches and rashes tooth-and-nail. We've tried everything under the sun. Not much has worked. Finally, an older lady I met in town told me to try zinc oxide ointment (Desitin). DANG!! Why didn't I think of this sooner?? IT WORKS!!! Not only does it work, but the "inactive ingredients" (mineral oil, petroleum jelly) seems to help to protect against recontamination. Guess if it works on gald and diaper rash, it would work on other rashes too.

DUH...That's why I posted it. DANG!! Why didn't I think of this sooner?? IT WORKS!!! Had both legs, both arms, my torso, neck, face and a few unmentionable places covered poison ivy/oak/sumac. Used the Desitin and the next morning all the rash was gone. Ohhhh, you smart alacks. ;D Uh, side tip here....Don't spray DEET on the open sores. Yeow! Might as well have poured battery acid on myself.

If you get by a pharmacy anytime soon, you need to look for Desitin. I've heard that it works like magic!
Ya know, I used to be bad about catching PI anytime I went out during the summer, but a hot soapy shower as soon as I got in helped keep me from breaking out so bad by cleaning the plant oils off me.

motner natcher has the best thing I know of, Jewl weed. I have also used touch me nots (they are from the same family) but jewl weed is the best by far. Look for it in damp dark area's...
