Time for a rant;
I took my daughters slug barrel for her mossberg 500 to a local gunsmith to have a fiber optic front sight put on it. It had one on the rear but time constraints last year didn't allow for installing the front which requires milling the one piece factory installed blade off then dove tailing the base for the fiber optic blade. I walked in and placed the barrel on the counter and tell the smith I want a fiber optic front sight installed to match the rear fiber optic sight.
He picks up the barrel and say, " it looks like a mossberg barrel". I say, yes a model 500. He says, and ported too. I say, yes, it's a slug barrel. He says, oh, you shoot slugs out of it. I was tempted to be a smart ass at this point and say something like, DUH, but kept quiet. He starts giving me directions to the local mall and finishes with, in the mall is a hobby store. Go in and buy yourself a bottle of floresent paint and paint your front sight blade. I say that's not what I wanted to which he replies, that's just as good and cheaper then what you want.
I told him I wanted the fiber optic to which he handed the barrel back to me and said to get on a computer and order one from Tru Glow. I told him that it still requires milling the front sight to which he stated again that the paint was just as good and cheaper.
Since I was there I asked about ordering a Marlin lever action in 44 magnum. He points to a 41 magnum revolver in his case and says that is accurate and would kill a deer just as good out to 200 yards. I tell him I hunt out of state and wanted the rifle for Indiana and I did not have a handgun permit even if I wanted to use a handgun. He stated that since I did not have a permit he would guess that I could not legaly buy a firearm to start with. I told him he was wrong and in fact I bought a SKS off of him a year ago. He says, well something is on your background that is preventing you from getting a Tn. handgun permit. I said yea something is preventing it, I didn't want a handgun permit. He says, you would probaly be turned down for a legal sale so he would not even bother selling me a gun. I ask why would I be turned down. He says, for the same reason you got turned down for the handgun permit. I again say, I wasn't turned down, I didn't apply and don't want one. He says, well your hiding something and it may be something I had espunged from my record. I told him my record had nothing on it to include anything espunged. He then started to rant about democrats and how the NRA is our last,best hope crap and I just walked out.
