Last year I planted green patch plus and had good results but I was going to find something cheaper that might have better luck. This year I thought I would plant turnips mixed in with something else.. Need your output if this is a good idea and what should I plant. Going this Wednesday to plant it..Thanks alot everyone...Steve

I'm a big fan of turnips in food plots, I also like black eyed peas and green beans. You can get peas and beans cheap!
Another thing I have done is to use fifty pounds of wild bird seed. You get lots of grasses and seed pods to attract not only deer, but turkey and quail too!

Steve it depends on where you live. They should be green and vining before first frost here in Ohio but dead soon after. If you want to keep green on through fall into winter, even to Spring, wheat and maybe oats would be good if you aren't planting too big of an area.

Forgot you was much farther north than me! Try sugar beats! Buddy of mine in Montana has deer all over his sugar beats. He plants about a quarter acre of them each year andt he deer go nuts on 'em.

Turnips are always good...deer will eat the plants down to the nubs...and when they regrow..they'll do it again...then they'll paw up the bulbs and eat them when the freeze hits... if you sow red, white or yellow clover over it you'll get a mulch mat that'll keep the ground from freezing so fast...makes for easier pickings....keeps them coming back for more....
