Aw, common Kathy. We went nuts coming up with that title! It'll go along with the "Grass Identification and Weed Burning Seminars Series" I'm gonna have next fall on our hill. ;D ;D If the demo's are 10-3, what time should we plan to arrive to get our fires started and ready to cook with?? Phil, if your aunt would be interested in joining us, tell her to give me a ringy-dingy. Would be happy to pick her up on the way through. I don't think the boys will be with us. Marty will be working and Rob said he "don't want to spent a day with us.... "old farts"

Are you planning on cooking over an open fire? If so, I can start the fire and get some good logs/coals going before you arrive. Did you want to use the campfire circle where we were last time? The one with the big heavy table and benches? Sorry to hear the boys won't be joining you. kj

Kathy, I've decided to do the turkeys here. Can not find a non-zinc clad can and I'm not going to risk the problems with zinc. I thought about smoking the birds on site but under 200 degrees would take around sixteen hours and moving my smokers which are moveable but not designed for portability. I'll do something else edible for dlemonstration purposes and do the DO presentation thingie say every hour or so with something different just in case I'm the only DOer that showes up with gear. Eaglenest and Faith are both bringing a load of goodies and I'm excited!

Can not find a non-zinc clad can and I'm not going to risk the problems with zinc. Guess I never thought about the zinc when we did our birds. We never even bothered to burn out the can first. Hmm...maybe that's why we never had any colds last winter. We had a good dose of zinc. Eaglenest and Faith are both bringing a load of goodies and I'm excited! I am?? Make me a shopping/packing list.

No colds and you are probably preggers again from what I understand about zinc! Please don't make me go look up all that stuff you said you were bringing out! Just bring me something good to eat. Eloise said she will come out with you and thanks for the offer. Oh by the way, do not toss sour wine; distill it instead or at worst use it for vinegar!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now you and Toby tell me after Mike done flushed it 3 weeks ago! After the fact, I got to thinking that as yeasty as it tasted, I bet if I'd have thrown in some flour and herbs it would have made a pretty good gourmet bread. Oh well, too late now. Preggers? ? HELL NO!!!!!!!!! Not unless it's through devine intervention. I just about got my kids raised and ain't even lookin' forward to grandkids yet. (Although I did have a cute little chubby 4-year old wrap her arms around my thigh last night and call me her 'favorite American Idol' - More on that one later.) I'll bring something to eat, maybe drink, and it will all have the following disclaimer attached: Eat in moderation and at your own risk. Producer makes no claims as to the effects good tasting food may have on an individuals glucose level, allergies, blood pressure, vision, libido, sobriety, or overall well-being. ;D

Am thinking of gathering up about 45 - 50 old bricks or pavers and stacking up a little oven to bake in. Just don't have enough large heavy covered pans. Might be only 36x24x10 - just big enough to slide an open cookie sheet or a few pans back in. Only problem might be the bricks still being too hot to touch to pack home the same day.
Kathy, if it would be OK with you to stack up some bricks at the fire site for an oven, would it be OK to come pick them up later on after they cool?

I think if the fire were pulled there would be no problem cooling them down. Say Faith, could I get you to stop by here on the way out? I'm going to try to get Eloise to drive the ick up out and stop here to load up my crap. You know I clean forgot about not leaving there until around 7 PM or so! (Serious case of dumb ass.) I just might end up asking her to leave the truck here and riding home with you guys if that would work. If she doesn't sell the truck by then I think I'm going to buy it. If not then I'll go ahead and follow you guys out and come home earlyier. Eaglenest needs somebody to follow as well so I'll just have her meet up here with us if we can do this. (I just love to make things as complicated as possible!)

Sounds good to me. So, we don't need to stop by Eloise's? I figure she knows the way to your place. But do stop and get you. Right? Think I might also make up some green beans & taters while the bread is baking. I've got some extra ham hocks to throw in the pot.
