Woo hoo!!! fuzzypeach and schalegend

Brother's FIL passed away and I got in on cleaning out all the buildings yesterday. Whole place is being dozed in. Managed to get all the mason jars, glass gallon jugs, chicken feeders, coolers, a covered turkey roaster, few tools................
Anyways....I ended up with three skillets and a DO. There nothing special, but an interesting curiosity on new Wagner Ware.
First skillet is marked: Wagner Ware GHC (logo) General Housewares Corp. Made in U.S.A. 8 inch skillet BUT...it's a 6 inch skillet. It only measures 8 inches if measured from lip to lip. No other size indication except what's on the bottom.
Second skillet is marked the same. Except, on the handle it says "8" and on the bottom it says "10 1/2 inch skillet". Again, it's 10 1/2 if measured across the top, but 8 if measured inside across the bottom.
Third skillet has '9' on the handle and a small '1' at the 6:00 position on the base. Also, maybe a tiny cross or fraction on the bottom of the handle. But for size and thickness of iron is a nice light weight. Very smooth fine finish inside and out - except on underside of handle where it joins pan. Has a solid heat ring set right at the edge. Inside cooking surface measures 9 1/2. Across rim measures 11 3/4.
DO only has "Taiwan" on it's a 5-quart, but doesn't have a lid.
Don't know what Mick or his mom used to season with. But it's flaking off down to the bare metal. Think I'll throw them in the bonfire tomorrow and start the seasoning process all over.

very sorry about your Brother's FIL... But cool about the iron! Is an unmarked Wagner a second or one they may have made for someone else?

Wagner went through a series of markings and identifable check points on their iron over the years...it would take a tiny bit of research to check it out completely..but just so ya know wagner never produced any seconds ( all went to the break pile out back to be re-run...of course some of the not perfect stuff did make it out of the break pile...and into the main stream....take pics and post them and I'll look it up..,

Faith, looks like a Wagner..but it could also be an early Griswold or a wapak...wagner and wapak both used the griswald patterns after griswald went to rest....being light and thinner than most I would assume that it is a early Wagner...seasoning looks like they scrubbed it a few times and the seasoning is flaking because of that...a good burn out or electrolysis event, and a judicious long seasoning will restore it...

That's a Wagner number 9. Should measure 8 inches on the bottom and 9 on the top. The heat ring and the "1" on the handle put it in the early forties if memory serves correct. Nice heat rinkg. These lighter, smooth finish skillets are a pure pleasure to work with.

The nine might be the bottom measurement then. I was thinking it was the top. I'll check the book ifn I can find it but seem to member the bottom dimension is never a whole number for Wagner. The teardrop opening in the handle looks right and the "1" is a pattern or mold njumber, probably pattern which would also check with Wagner having the fire ring. Good looking skillet.
