Made it through another great holiday gathering with the whole family together. Granny, naturally was the star of the show (the last of her generation) and everybody came to be with her. 87 now and nobody wants to miss any holidays with her, so Mom's place was packed! The food... What can I say? Where do I begin? The whole bunch is big eaters and all can cook! Sixteen different pies and in the last couple of days I had a piece of pert near every one of them! Even better'n the food, was that we were together. Even the ones I can't stand; we met each other half-way and got along for the day. No fussing, fighting, punching, or biting; just grins. Lots of presents and I personally scored some nice loot. Didn't get that date with Britney Spears, but I did get a new Miter Saw. She'd a prolly give me the clap anyhow.

Toby, while we all want something like that (Spears) we would be better off with a home-grown woman.

Brit looks like the kind who would give you a bad case of Herpes and then think it was all funny or something. Indeed there are things out there that you can't get rid of with Ajax and a scouring pad! We decided to do something different next year...and I know that a lot of other families do this as well. I wrote everybody's name on a slip of paper, and put it in my 10 gallon hat. Everybody got to draw a name, and we set the limit at $25-$50 per person. With the economy the way it is, that will make it easier to buy one person one nice gift, than buy a bunch of people eihter a cheap gift or go into hock to the eyeballs and have to pay it off later. I managed to shop around and give some pretty decent gifts, but didn't spend over $40 for any one gift. The great nephew who works in the supermarket got a pair of steel-toed shoes for Christmas to prevent his getting his toe mashed in the stockroom in the future. The kid is ecstatic and says they feel good on his feet. Oh yeah...lest I forget...we excluded spouses from the limit on gifts. We all know that you'd better get your spouse something nice for Christmas if you want to stay out of the doghouse! Only one of my mailed packages didn't arrive on time this year. I got too late a start on things, but maybe they will enjoy it just as well when it gets there, probably Monday. It wasn't anything that would spoil, and it might make a bigger impression coming after the rush, if you know what I mean. Does anyone ever make homemade gifts anymore? My family did when I was a kid because we were too poor to do otherwise. I may reintroduce that idea next year. I can do a lot with my engraving as well as woodwork. Also do some fair leatherwork that usually features wildlife scenes rather than the usual floral motif seen on saddles and such. I may try my hand at making my nephew a super nice leather belt since I drew his name. Something western or with wildlife would suit him to a tee. -Rogue-

Those homegrown ones may not only be as bad but may be worse. Gods' way of picking ONE and sticking with it works best. Since He made me so darn ugly he eliminated any other option anyway.

Rogie! Got skills? If you can artist up a new logo for us I'd surely appreciate it. Just something incorporating a three legged pot or oven with the name and maybe the website address would be great. (On the cheek!) Yes some do still do home made. Eaglenest did up some peanut brittle, best I ever tasted, peanut butter fudge, apple butter and made up blanket throws too. When Sue and I first met I was still into making up candy and cookies for gifts. Kind of lost the mood for it though over time and just beginning to get the spark back. I got to comment on your gift exchange thing too Rogue. We did that in Iowa and it was terrific. Butttttt..... I volunteered to draw the gifts for the Outdoor Fellowship to give the owner a break and a chance at a gift himself this year. Posted the wrong numbers ending up giving a guy his own donation! I did! I got the "3" and the "5" mixed up when I was transposing the stuff to the website! LOL Severe case of DA! Oh well, life goes on!

Exactly right on both counts Mars! You are ugly and I should have stuck with the first one and been faithful, courteous, reverent, ...and all the other "Boy Scout points!"

I would be better off with a home-grown gal to be faithful too and all that stuff.....if I was looking for a keeper! I'd rather wear a callouse on my pecker and move on! Catch and release....it's more than a bumper sticker on Bill Dance's truck!

Of course Toby, I would not mind a little time with Shania Twain. Nothing serious or meaningful; simply carnal

My brother gave away boxes of fudge he'd made and Granny made a ton of fruit cakes for all her nieces and nephews. I got a picture of her building her fruit cakes I oughta post up on here. I think I'll do that with a copy of her recipe.
