I know that Coleman makes a infrared (or catalytic) heater that runs off the compact propane cylinders and uses 2 "D" cell batteries to run a little fan to force the heat out. There are a couple of others that are similar in operation. As far as totally battery powered, the closest think I know of is electric mittens and electric socks.
If you decide to check out the Coleman, you might look at WalMart or your local sporting goods stores...Big-5 carries them as well.

If you are opposed to burning gas or fuels the checmical pads/packs are the way to go. You can get at least a couple hours out of most of them and if you can keep heat on your hands and your feet while eliminating heat loss from your head you'll be good. One thing you might think about if you are sitting in a blind for several hours is pulling off your boots and replacing them with quilted mukluks which look kind of like oversized slippers. They with heat pads added will keep your feet from losing heat while you are sitting around not generating heat. Put a pad in each boot and when you get ready to change back they will be nice and toasty too and your feet will be dry. Rogie has it easy. When it gets cold in New Mexico all you do is go stand in the sunshine for a few minutes!

I'm pretty partial to my Little Buddy Heater and a 25 lb propane tank.

The way we do it here in Kentucky is with a can of beans. Eat them hot or cold. One can may last up to two hours it all depends on your system. Wear a set of coveralls to get full body warmth. Oh, as an added bonus this method will also keep away mosquitos, black flies and other biting/stinging critters.

I'm pretty partial to my Little Buddy Heater and a 25 lb propane tank. Got two of those Slim. They would really be great in a blind. Bitch in the back pack though! Tell me Slim how come I go to Wally world and can get 25 lb of propane for about a buck thirty a goallon but fill up my 500 gallon tank it is over two bucks?

A tin coffee can filled one third of the way with sand works if you tightly wad a mess of toilette paper, place it on the sand, then soak it with alcohol and ignite. The TP burns like a wick and doesn't disappear into ash right away. It'll burn hot, fairly scentless, and cheap.

Another one for you Paws, how come the smaller tanks cost more, like the 2.5 gal or 3 gal propane tanks - they cost over twice as much as the 5 gal jobbie to buy. One of the best ways I have found to stay warm in a blind is a hot young blonde with big hooters........don't get much hunting done but who cares......

I'd have better luck snagging that 30 pointer than the blonde!
