Just got into and argument (a friendly one!) about Mayonaise.
We both agreed that the French invented it, but what in the hell is it made of.
Is it milk based or egg based?

I put two mayonnaise recipes in the recipe box under the salads catagory. One is from 1934 and the other is from 1976. Neither of these recipes call for the use of a mixing jar, although I use mine when making these recipes. I'm sure your ma, gr'ma or aunt can tell you about or might even have a mayonnise mixing jar. It looks somthing like this.

I'm a try this recipe first Faith, on accounta it uses less salt. 1/2tsp as opposed to 2tsp in the other recipe. Mayonnaise II 1 egg yolk 2 TBS lemon juice or 2 TBS vinegar 1 cup salad oil 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp sugar or honey cayenne Combine egg yolk, salt sugar, and a few grains cayenne. Beat until blended. Add sufficient oil slowly, beating constantly, to thicken mixture. Continue beating, while adding lemon juice or vinegar, a little at a time, alternating with the remaining oil until all has been incorporated. I hadn't set out to make any, but just to find out what it is made of. My neighbor Rick and I somehow got on the subject and he insisted that it was made from whipping thick cream and adding in spices and such; I insisted it was from egg whites....we was both wrong. Now I'm a fix up some and share it with him, lol. Thanks again!

She might get mayo out of it, but I wouldn't spread it on a sammich ! Actually, I printed out the recipe and got Dad to whip up a batch and guess what? It tasted okay, but it wasn't Helman's! Fred, the youngest of the new litter, LOVED it and ate nearly the whole bowl full on a side salad. He says THANKS to Miss Faith! ;D

Lol, Snake! It is that slow!
He was quoting a line from the movie, "Pirates Of The Carribean" about mayonnaise. Then followed it up with the question, "Just how did the French come up with that anyway?" and it went on from there.

Oil and egg based dresings are products of Italy. The French focus on cream based stuff. Mayo is all oil and egg with various seasonings.
