It takes a long time for fur to get prime so far down here, but it's prime right now.
I didn't string any traps out myself, but I picked up four coons on the road that were fresh and skint them out, rolled 'em up and put 'em in the freezer.
The "fox pens" I just heard are paying up to a hundred bucks each for coyotes to plant in their pens to run with hounds. I don't have any box traps big enough for a coyote, but I'm going to try to rig up some snares. I've got the steel traps and my lil bro David's going to put them to use.
What are you and little Miss Mars trapping this season?

I haven't set a trap and I'm not planning on it this year. With Tn.'s stupid laws it's more of a pain then it's worth for ground trapping. However, the otter population is growing and I love water trapping so hopefully I get off my backside for next year. I'm not alone in Tn. as many people gave up because of the laws coupled with the fur prices. It isn't worth it let alone making a mistake and getting hauled to jail. Look at the trouble we had just bear hunting. We don't have coyote hunters that use dogs here but Washington county has a few fox hunters that use dogs and they managed to get fox trapping banned in this county. It is illegal for me to possess a fox here at the house no matter where I killed it. You sell green or are you waiting for better prices? Reference freezing the hides.

Used to sell green, but last couple of years I saved thme up in the freezer and waited on better prices.
By the time fur gets prime down here all the buyers have met their needs and you can't hardly give it away. Not worth the time to skin iy out, much less flesh and dry it. Right now I can expect about $1.50 tops for coonhides. If I hold 'em over until October and November, I can get $4-5.00.

Coon hide prices here are so low that coon hunters quit killing them years ago and nobody actualy traps for them. As a result there are coon everywhere and rabies along with it. In this county the largest group of animals with rabies is fox. Go figure! Our season runs another month and you done got trapping back in my head!

Our season goes through March 7th, but they'll long ago be rubbed out by then! Last oon I picked up was beginning to shed and if we don't get another cold snap soon, they'll all be back to worthless. Coyotes for the fox pens though don't matter on their hide; so far Dave only had one catch, but it pulled out. I ordered a bunch of snares on e-bay and waiting on them to arrive. Hell, if I can catch a couple a week; that money'd be mighty welcome!
