To quote Roy Rogers, "Yippe Kai A, Kai O, Mother F*cker!" Or was that Bruce Willis....
Whichever; enjoy that new toy! Man, I'd love to get one myself, but I don't get nuttin' back in taxes.... That .17 is supposed to be some souped-up varmint medicine. I'd love to take a Golden Boy out for squirrels!

Saw a a video on U-Tube where a guy shoots a rabbit at 175yds with a .17HMR.Was not a Henry, but still an impressive shot for a .17HMR. BTW for those that might ask what does HMR mean the answer is HornadyMagnumRimfire........It is a round created by Hornady to outshoot the .22magnum,which it has done in both FPS and accuracy.I showed Mrs snake a .17HMR round and she said it was cute Sorry guys,I have heard of ammo as being deadly & ugly. But WOW first time I had ever heard of ammo as cute.....No wonder we love one another! She is a treasure

Well you go get that Cowboy, squirrel killer with the CUTE ammo and lemme know how ya like it.
Ol' Dude down the road has one in .22lr and he was over at dad's about a year ago and they was out busting up a bunch of soda cans with it. He fell in love, but trying to convince mom to let him get one has been a no go so far, lol. He's already got six different .22's and trying to convince her that a .17 will do the same job them .22's has been doing so well...but only better...hasn't worked for him.
I want a Big Boy in .44 so bad I can taste it. What an awesome little hog/deer rifle for these thick woods down here!

Keep us informed on that .17 please. I don't think I'd care for a lever action for squirrel but the calibre is interesting. Toby don't you think a 44 is a tad heavy and slow for deer and hog?

I don't know about Toby but I've taken several deer with a Ruger SuperBlackhawk in .44 mag. and it works great. One day I may get the nerve to actualy shoot one of the Marlins I have in .44 mag..
I have a friend that his dream hunt is to go after a grizzly or brown bear with a .17.

A grizzly with a .17??? He got something against living???
.17 is definitely a badass little round and I've no doubt you can kill a grizz with it...but how quickly?
That's one super thick skull covered with a pretty dense layer of muscle. A shoulder shot or even rib cage is out of the question; too thick of fur, bone, leather, and muscle to get deep enough and that round fragments too much.
I know the old low behind the ear angle would probably get it done. But I'm not risking my life for a shot oportunity on a 1"X2" target on a half-ton of pure meanness!
He might as well just try to wrestle the damn thing, lolo. ;D

We have talked a bunch of times over his wanting to do that. I always say that shot placement is way more important then caliber/size of the round. However, it must be able to get to a vital organ and I don't think a .17 is up to it. It may but I wouldn't want to be near him during the attempt.
