C'mon fellers, ya'll need to give me a hand and invite a few folks to join us here at the OCC. I'd hate to run the population so low that nobody visits at all. I enjoy all you guy's BS'ing and offering tips and such; so let's get a few more folks in here with us. Be a shame if nobody new shows up and benefits from our unique brand of hospitality, lol.

Everything has it's season Toby. Maybe it is time to turn out the lights and shut the doors. I hate to see us do that. If attendance doesn't improve I think it is the right thing to do though.

Toby, if you would be so kind as to write us something up describing us and why folk should join in I will see if I can get Google and FaceBook ads for cheap or maybe go into hock! Be a shame to waste Rogies beautiful logo, and all them tasty recipes you folk have invented/donated.

Don't know if it's an idea anybody has thought about, but has anybody thought about starting a "fans page" on Facebook to link folks up with our site here? If each of us became fans of our own page, our Facebook neighbors would see the link to our "fans page" where we could tell about our little group and direct them here. Then, their friends would see the link and so on......... It seems like even us "regulars" here are spending way too much time over on Facebook (I'm guilty. That farm has me tied down a bit. )

Just don't let it become an obsession. Now, got any idea how we become a something with fans? Wait I might have an idea. One of the gals that was at KJs is a real estate agent and I noticed that she has a fan page. I'll ask her to give me the run down.

I hooked up to face book so I could have better com with the youngest son (he's in the Army and deployed) I've posted a few pics and such and made a few comments to others...not into the gaming thing, but I cut and pasted toby's blub on my profile and looked for some instructions on how to post a fan thingy....not much luck but I hope even what we did will help some...

After it's started, I can assign you as our admin.

I've been sitting here following this thread, but IMHO, I think we've gotten off the track from what this great website is all about.....To prove a point, I just read the last 30 posts and with the exception of three (Food Post), 27 posts were of all different subjects, so I think we have to make a reversal and get back to cooking and offering posts in that direction...... For example, we have long posts about farming, going to a gym, many jokes, a bunch of dead titled forums.....These do not offer any of the material we should be noted for..... Now to get back to participation, I know nothing about farming, and maybe some don't either......Reinacting is fine provided we talk about the cooking that was done in the past...I saw a great old time recipe for making turkey.....I'll post it, its easy and very tasty...However we do need to advertise our group , but as I said, we have to get back to what brought us here..."The Ohio Camp Cooks"

I think if you want to finish off the site completely then have at the suggestions.
If the interest was only with cooking then the fact remains the topics would reflect that interest. The lack of posts on the suggested topics indicates the lack of interest not a growing interest. This is the forum not the main website.

In another opinion; There are 6-8 people that regularly post here and there is only so much they can do. Like all such forums it requires that the members actualy do something other then show up, read a post or two then leave. Participation on the forums is not mandatory but it is needed to keep things "fresh". Surprisingly, some members have ten of thousands of posts over at NAHC yet have only a few here.

Even before I read the Koot's post I was kicking around similart houghts in my head. We DO need more outdoor cooking, but I heartily agree with Mars, we don't want to take away from our other topics also.
I think it'd be great if Paws would start a new thread about Dutch Oven cooking. When I first came to the OCC I got real excited about the cast iron and I got bust and used them, but I haven't done anything like that in a couple of years.
I bet we can get others excited again too....atleast I hope so...

Just a bit of information on the necessity of all these forums, there are at least 18 forums that have not been used ,going back to 2006, and some ending in 2008....Some we need because they relate to certain holidays, but a true re-evaluation should be made of the other forums...I agree with Toby on his thought about Dutch Oven Cooking, but the rest may not be needed....I find that maybe in the future, we can add some forums, but it all would as needed and if we get an increase in membership input.....

IMO, deleting any forum discussion is not a good idea. Maybe move them to a historical section.
The members HAVE to get involved and I'm refering to those other then the regular few.
If it is agreed, I will go through the member list and e-mail each member that hasn't posted or posted in awhile.

You are an Administrator and empowered to mass e-mail. I'd like to see greater member participation as well. I hate to lose our history; archives might be a good idea if I'm smart enough to set it up. Keep the ideas coming everyone.

I guess I'm one of the ones hwo hasn't been around much. I try to check and see what's going on once in a while, but really haven't had much to say. The last year or so I haven't been doing much on the 'puter. Seems like there's so much else to do, daughter getting married, son graduating from college, waiting for the first grandkid (3 more weeks to go), and we're planning an antelope hunt in Wyomong this fall. Except for Paws always calling me "Don" I've always enjoyed coming on here. I'll try to be more active around here.
