The Florida State NWTF Turkey Calling Championships are right around the corner and once again being hsted by Bass Pro Shops at the Orlando location.
Chicken's had the calls out practicing for awhile and I got in some burly maple to build myself a call to use. I've got some persimmon wood paddles already built and I'm hoping it'll match the maple for a sweet sounding call.
Wish us luck! Since she's nineteen now, we're competing in the same class, lol.

Chicken finished fourth and I finished seventh out of twenty-three callers in the pro division.
It was a much better competition than last year and I got to spend a lot of time meeting and greeting some of the Woods n Water readers. It was a fun day. ;D

Of the six judges that officiated and listened to the six calls I had to demonstrate; each one marked me down on my kee-kee run. I used a box call in the pro-friction division... An idea how hard it is to kee-kee with a box call? No sweat; I already built a box call that two and a half inches long made entirely out of oak that kee-kee's like a sumbitch! Wish I'd a thought of it before the competition. It doesn't do anything else other than the kee-kee, but I can use more than one caller, so next year....

Bet it was a blast... congrats on the finishes and a special congrats to that there Girl child...she should take up guiding...using yours and Brians calls could be a boon to your endeviors...
on that kee-kee call...oh well, hind site is always 20/20...I use the short Heirloom box call I got in the HHH auction...I also made a flat slab call that works well for close in putts and chirps...makes the toms light up like times square...
