He just got back from the dentist this morning after having a wisdom tooth cut out. He turned 63 yesterday and had to have a wisdom tooth removed, lol. I asked him what next, acne?
He gets both knees replaced on November 17th also, so I'll be hitting you guys up for some prayer for him. Thanks!

He's past the dental work... That kinda stuff only grieves ya a little bit, but he's looking forward to the knee surgery.
His knees are bad, but with a handful of Ibuprofin, he gets around pretty good. He hates pain killers of any sort and won't take them, so it's RARE that he does, but when he does, it's a huge improvement.
He's determined to get the joints replaced so he won't hurt anymore. I'd rather see him take the Ibuprofin than risk any sort of surgery. Fact is, most folks I know that have had the surgery still pop a pain killer from time to time. He worries me...
With his diabetes, he's at high risk for blood clots, infections, and reactions to the anesthetics. I can't say I'm very comfortable with this at all... I'm praying he'll change his mind, but if he doesn't that the Lord will see him through it with good health.

I'll trade my hips for his knees! No I won't, cause if I didn't spend so much time resting my hips they wouldn't be painful and stiff! He is in our prayers Toby!

Toby,
My dad is also a diabetic and has had the knee replacement surgery on both knees (and other surgeries). While surgery has risks involved, the rewards are worth it in the long run. Pray for him and the surgeons (as I will) and trust in the Lord. If it is His will, He will see you dad through.

If you remember, a couple of years back I had surgery on my left knee. The relief from the pain is amazing and well worth the pain from the surgery. If your dad has the surgery tell him to NOT be stubborn and take the pain meds. I didn't take mine, the first few hours. After those few hours I couldn't take them fast enough. It's going to hurt, alot. Take the meds!

He drives out to the VA hospital tonight with Mom and they're putting 'em up in a hotel for the night then cutting first thing in the morning.
Ya'll know how much prayers are appreciated! Dad don't heal well from the diabetes and ya know I'm mighty worried about him. Thanks a lot!

I trust you are a responsible son and have already given them "the talk" about what could happen when a couple finally gets a night off the ranch and in a hotel room far away from all the critters and rug rats. Will be praying for your dad and all y'all. BTW - Did Sis make it home from her ordeal?? Last I heard was from your momma and at that time they were thinking about releasing her.

Amen! Yes Faith, they released her and she's at home. She's weak as a cat and still under doctors orders not to move around too much and she goes in to his office tomorrow. We're still praying for her as well.

Dad's running a fever and now that they cut out the IV narcotics, he's in awful pain. They want him to go to a rehab center for a few days, but he's adament that he wants to come home. I told mom if he's running a fever not to let them discharge him, he doesn't need to come home if there's possibility of an infection beginning in the wound, but needs to be there under their supervision. Please continue to help me pray...I love you guys so much, your prayers are very much appreciated!

Oh yeah, they sent him home with fever and all. Whole leg's swollenfrom this to toe tips and not a good looking color. He's got the ice machine keeping theregion cool and a hand full of various drugs to attempt to make him comfortable and to fight the possibility o infection. He's plumb miserable and won't hold the leg upright, but wants to let it flop off to the side and will no get up on it to walk, barely to stand. Fred had to carry him up the steps (thank God the boy's a moose) and got him to his recliner and that's where he's staying. PT won't be in until Monday...that's right MONDAY!!! If he sits lethargic for two days, his leg's going to mortify and the joints going to heal corrupted...reckon we'll have to go and start calling him "Chester"! Lord, I BEG of you for a swift and positive healing...

If I recall right, when granny had her knees done (3 yrs ago), rehab happened in the hospital for 2 or 3 days. They rotated between the ice machine, pressure machine and a gizmo that excersised the legs/knees. She said they all worked great except that excersise gizmo wanted to start crawling up her thigh sometimes. One night they turned it on while she was sleeping and she nearly came flying up out of the bed screaming and on a dead run when it nipped where it shouldn't have. Don't like what you're saying about the discoloration and swelling. That's got me real worried too. He's got to be in a lot of pain even with all the dope they've given him. Could be why he doesn't want to hold it upright or put any weight on it. But he's gotta do just that -- just like if you got a horse or cow with a bad leg or hoof. As much as they might want to lie down, you gotta make them use it or it ain't gonna heal right. Tell him that if he ain't gonna follow doctor's orders that there's a wanna be cow vet up in Ohio that's built like a brick chit house and she's gonna come down there and help y'all take care of him if he won't do like he's suppose. Well it sounds like it made those knees work!

Nurse stopped by today and did a psych evaluation, another stopped by to inspect the wound, and the physical therapist is due to arrive any minute.
He's grumbling, not wanting to get up and move, but the fever's gone...praise the Lord!
