ANYBODY MISS ME YET, WELL MAYBE???.... Sorry I haven't been around for awhile without any solid input, but over the last week and today, I've made two trips to the hospital.....I've finally been diagnosed with walking pneumonia and anemia...Can't figure out why, but I guess with all the other crap I"ve got, nothing extra would surprise me.... Good to see all the great food being grilled in the snow, and some of the newer members participating...Right now I feel like I've gone 10 rounds with Mohamed Ali, so I'll cut it short....Hopefully I'll be back soon....

Don't be ornery; rest and take the meds like you're told. Pneumonia's a rough row to hoe; gonna take awhile before you're feeling yourself again, I'm betting. Just be a patient patient and continue to feel better, Koot.

Y'all should see the new pile of meds I got...Found out I'm anemic too, No iron in my system at all need vitamin C and a little problem with my liver function has arisen also...Not much ado about the liver however...2 out of 3 functions working...Sugars out of control, so I'm increasing my insulin...Can't understand that when I get regular testing...OH WELL.......

Steve, most of the diabetes medications erode live function. Metformin, glipizide, glyberide are some of the worst. Insulin is not too awful far behind them. Diabetes is chronic as it becomes more difficult to control over time. Eventually it will kill us. The most we can hope for is control of the complications that make survival miserable. The good news is that while you need more iron in you blood you still have lead in your pencil. Well for now anyway because if you live long enough uncontrolled diabetes will steal that too.,

Spoke with PA working with my doctor on my illness....Found out my A1C was 9+, the good news is that its down from 11+ from several months ago...So I'm in the right direction anyway....Doctor feels the spike is from my anemia and pneumonia....The sudden changes to my system could do that.....Had a slight increase in my insulin, so that will help.....Starting to feel like Henry the V111, it was diabetes that done him in in the end.....The Tudor diet was the reasoning at that time.....It was much much worse back in those days then what I'm consuming...No knowledge of anything about the food they were or weren't eating and the alcohol consumption they drank..

I was at 11 too when I went on the four day fast. That was a prelude to pneumonia. Dropped to 9.2 last read but now my weight is back up and I suspect my A1C as well. I just plain quit walking when I got sick last June.

I lost 11 pounds along the way, my appetite was way down, but now with the anti biotic and prednisone I'm taking, I guess I'm putting on weight again....I guess it's all part of the treatment with the ups and downs.....

Don't worry about gaining back the weight, Koot. I don't reccomend Pneumonia as a very good diet plan anyway, I remember Phil lost a bunch when he was fighting it too.
Hell, I'd rather have ya fat and feeling fine than skinny and feeling like Paws looks...
I just got some iron pills from the Dollar General Store in Floral City; they're 200mg and tasteless. I pop one each morning before I hit the coffee pot and I'm hoping it'll help out a little with upping my energy. It can't hurt ya and they're only a couple bucks for the whole big bottle. Might look for 'em if ya got a DG store up yonder.

If you are on blood thinners, tell your doctor you want to eat more leafy greens and have he/she adjust your dosage. If that doesn't work you could always go lick a flag pole; but carry a thermos of warm water with you.

Well I have been diagnosed with severe anemia too.....There is no iron in my system....I'm on Farreous Sulphate and vitamin C....I'm showing improvement already......Toby, I liked your collards and liver treatment ( love liver, fried onions, and boiled potato's )...I am into greens but here in the North East, its white man style of veggies cooking only and the stores are limited in what they supply....I'd probably have to head towards NYC to get the greens.....

In a pinch, Winn Dixie brand canned collard greens taste mighty fine, but once you open the can, don't drain the juice, but toss in a chunk of ham fat when you fix 'em up. Served with a few sprinkles of Louisiana Hot Sauce and it's almost enjoyable! Broccoli and raisins tote a lot of iron too...but not as much as the liver. I orefer calf's liver breaded lightly with flour, salt, n pepper n make a gravy once it's brown...toss in some sweet onions n bell pepper and if it don't make ya healthier, Koot, it'll darn shore make ya feel like it!

Koot, I apologize for not seeing this post before now.I am with Paws, pneumonia can make a baby out of you.I spent a week in the hospital a couple years ago with it.They drained nearly a gallon of fluid from my right lung over the period of 3/4 days. I ignored things I should have taken care of....I thought it was just a chest cold.I was scolded by all at the hospital for waiting so long to take care of my problem.I missed 2 1/2 months work, and when I did go back I felt like hell for another month. If I could give you one piece of advise it would be to listen to your Drs. There are times they get it right.

Thanks Snake,I agree and I religiously follow my Docs direction to the tune that by the time I finish eating breakfast in the a.m, I've spent about two hours between eating and medicating....I'm very satisfied and comfortable with my circle of Doctors I'm seeing.....

Koot you can order in most anything you can think of. If you have an Asian or Oriental store around you can get fresh veggies. If not call Toby and he'll run you up some from Mexico, Florida, and maybe even some fruit from Columbia. Kraut is loaded with vitamin C and is basically Zero Carb once the fiber is figured in.
