Ya'll know Chicken. Her real name's Terri Lynn, but nobody knows that; she's just our Chicken. Anyway, Chicken had an angel riding with her yesterday. She was breaking in a new colt when her barrel horse, a big paint gedling, came barreling into them and began to eat up the new colt, a t-bred stallion. Chicken got knocked off and thrown beneath the fighting horses. She came in with hoof marks on her cheek, covered in dirt with her shirt hanging off of her and a dangling left arm. Coulda got herself killed, but like I said, the Lord hand sent an angel to ride with her because she walked away with only a bunch of bad bruises, a broken left forearm, and a few cracked ribs. She's one tough Chicken, but she's mighty stove up today and smells to high heaven of horse linament, lol. Ya'll join me in prayer tha she recovers quickly and as painlessly as the Good Lord might allow. Thanks!

Prayers are continuing from last night when you first told me. Mighty, mighty lucky gal, she is.
There's stuff being sold at the perfume counters for a whole lot more and that smell a whole lot worse than that linement. That dang gelding still in the stables or did you take him for a ride in the trailer today?
Y'know she's gonna have to at least go out to smooth things over with the colt before training can restart. Some brushing and sponge downs will be good for both of them.

A new doctor and whole new sets of x-rays yesterday because she still is spitting up a lot of blood. Doc says that there's a lot of bruising in the lower right lung from being stomped and that's what is coming up. Said it ought to heal like any other bruise, but it'll take some time.
Couple a ribs show distinct fractures as well as the radius bone in the lower left forearm.
When she got home yesterday, she walked around following my dad as he fed everyone and pulled up a chair in the colt's pen and just sat with him and talked for an hour.
The big gelding should find a new home tomorow; lady is coming to see him at 9:00am and bringin Chicken a money order for $3,500.
She sat with the colt again this morning and had her breakfast while he had his. Just lots of talking and neck rubbing. She's thinking he'll be ready to ride again in two weeks...I think she's nuts!
We really do appreciatet all the prayers!!! ;D

Whoe dogie! Spittin' up blood? She musta got more beaten up than we realized at first. I'm sure it is just from a bruised lung. But with the fractured ribs, it coulda been a whole lot worse! You know you got those prayers coming from here. too!! Glad to see she's trying to patch things up with the colt. Those little conversations and pettin's will be good for both of them. And I know you think she's nuts for wanting to restart training in two weeks. I can understand your concern. But the sooner the better.

Training is ok, puttin' your butt in a saddle and bouncing around is quite another when ya got a bruised lung...it takes 100 days for a body to put it's self back to 100%...external and sub dermal bruises heal rather quickly internal ones do not...I know this from experience and now suffer with the certanty that I'll get pnuemoia nearly every year..just because I didn't follow the Doc's orders to keep my ass out of a saddle (and a few other bouncy activities I'll not mention here)...if she needs to weight train the critter use sand bags and such...

Up and around and ornery as ever. Still no plans to get in a saddle for awhile though and taking it easy when and where she can. The blood has stopped coming up, thank God for that. And yeah TT; Doc says a little over three months for her to be a hunnert percent. But, you ain't gonna get that gal to sit still that long! She worked the colt in the round pen and ge's just as happy and responsive to her. They're both going to be fine. Stopped by Tractor Supply yesterday and she was fussing cause the guy in the store insisted on loading her feed for her, lol. He was clearly trying to impress her and was quite doting on the poor crippled critter...she just growled, lolol. Still got the brace on the arm, but refuses the sling. She did a show at the Strawberry Festival Saturday and kept giving out of breath, but the crowd still loved her...She's some Chicken!
