Last couple years has been rough on me for vehicles... The latest truck, I bough last July, just let me down. I was tooling along hwy98 this morning on my way to a turkey hunt when the ol' truck had an audible "boom" beneat the hood, which was imediately followed by a sound not entirely unlike that of a soda can half full of pebbles being shaken real hard. A bad burning oil smell poured into the cab and I shut it off and coasted to the shoulder. Thank God for AAA, lol. So now I'm truck shopping again... What an ill-timed aggravation!

Net wrecked her car, think it may be fixable (and let our oldest use it for college), the tracker blew a radiator at drill last weekend (Net had to drive 200 miles to get me a new one) and before I got it home, the alternator went out, Net also lost the transmission in her SUV and I had to let it go till spring break (hope to have it in tomorrow) and still don’t know why my diesel truck went from 24 MPG before leaving for the litterbox to 16 MPG? I do feel for your predicaments. I am about ready to saddle up the horses.

Lol, I just changed the erl in th doggone thing three weeks ago...
It's kinda embarrassing...how the heck do you tear up a 300 inline six??? Still, I managed.
I got a line on another F-150 with the 5.4liter V-8 for 3K. I'm probably going to go ahead and buy it. Problem with a rebuild or another engine, the tranny's not great and the six doesn't have enough hoss-power to haul my big cattle trailer once it's loaded, so I was tossing around the idea of getting another withint the next couple months anyway. This kinda speeds things up some.

I got a line on another F-150 with the 5.4liter V-8 for 3K. That's what we got. Other than the 13 mpg and a very thirsty 26 gal tank (hwy or city) it's a real nice farming vehicle. Just watch your speed and keep an eye on the dippy stick thingy. Quart of 5W20 a month is pretty normal for the 5.4 V-8. Seems like ours is sitting still when we're actually pushing 80mph. How's the one you're looking at rated? I think most were 1/2 ton trucks. We managed to find a 3/4 ton.

Yup, yup. it's a 3/4 ton with a long bed. I niggled ol' dude at the dealership and he let it go for $2,500. I pick it up manana. Was supposed to go get it today, but we been out of power and water for the last three days after a wister dropped in on us and I didn't feel like going anywhere till I can a good shower, lol.

Ain't that long bed nice!! I love ours. We had it about a week when I went down to check in on mom & dad back in Feb. My dad's a pretty quiet type of guy, but when I pulled in the drive he came out and said "Do you think you have a long enough wheelbase?? What the HELL do you plan on hauling?? Whatever it is, she oughta be able to handle it!"
I don't know how tall you are or how long your legs are, but ours has step rails and they sure are a godsend to me! Otherwise, I'd have to keep a bucket behind the seat to use as a step stool.
BTW - when we get sick of the bed cap and you get to wanting one.......yep, yep. It'll be behind the chicken house.

Yeah, I closed the deal. So far, so good. It slips a little going into second gear (didn't notice that on the test drive), but it runs good and strong. Hauled the stock trailer full of old cows to the auction barn last Sunday and didn't give me any trouble. Here's praying it gets me through for another year or two!

My ol hunting/fishing pal, Bob, had a 300 inline 6 do the identical self destruct sequence a few years back. We were going to try to fix it, but when we pulled the cylinder head, everything looked pretty normal...that is until one of us touched the top of one of the pistons and it felt loose! The pistons had busted right around one of the ring grooves and a couple of them were just sitting on there. Yep, the cylinders were ruined, so we ended up putting a big-block V-8 in the truck (with custom fabricated motor mounts) and it was good to go again. I just fell into a good deal on a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4X4 in extremely nice condition. Has the 318 engine and gets about 17mpg on the road. This will replace my museum piece Ford (which is still a nice looking truck, but getting hard to get parts for). Every once in a while I need a full sized 4X4 to get a job done. My little Tracker won't haul very much! Wishing us both luck!

This one's still shifting hard but still on the road. I need a rebuild on the tranny to straighten it out...NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!! Have you priced them lately? Costs as much as what I paid for the whole damn truck!
I'm a get another tranny pulled out of a junk yard and get 'em switched out. Run me about another seven hundred....
Best of luck with the Dodge Roguey!
