I already shared this with [you]. Just had to post it here though. My Pastor's wife sings a song "Down the Road Came Jesus, Right On Time". Well, this was our "right on time" experience......
The fact [you] were online and offered gas at the same time that a trip to Paducah was required was the first blessing. Once we got there, it got real interesting about how we were getting home since they wouldn't give him a travel voucher on such short notice. Alrighty. So we're 500 miles away from home with no gas and no money. Spent the night praying about it though.
Next morning, I'm up walking the balcony when I saw a pawn shop across the street. Had tugged off my wedding ring off and put it in my pocket. Went back in the room and told Mike what I planned to do. He said it was totally up to me.
So.....we decided to head down to the lobby for breakfast before we had to run over to HQ for directions to the hospital - wondering how we'd make that little trip since the fuel light came on about 20 miles before rolling into town. This particular hotel is nothing but rivermen and professional dog breeder guests. About 40 guys were in the parking lot, switching gear from one vehicle to the other, callling home, gulping coffee.....Rich bitch ladies were walking their fancy little mutts around. We sat and watched them, still trying to figure out the gas situation and hoping that by evening Mike would rejoin the numbers heading to the boats. Before too long, they were all gone and the parking lot was pretty well empty.
Mike decided he needed a little "cooling off" spell to think it all over. So he went out to the parking lot for a walk while I finished my cereal and watched the morning news. About 5 minutes later he came back. We got in the truck and headed over to HQ and the hospital. He had is release in hand and was a happy boy.
I'm still sweating how I'm getting home. Told him to run past the pawn shop and I'd go ahead and get the ring hocked. He smiles and said "No you're not." Hmm.....Alrighty. What's your plan?? He smiles, reaches in his shirt pocket and pulls out a fifty-dollar bill. WTH?? Is he holding back on me?? He said when he went for the walk back at the hotel, he found it on the ground. It gave us enough gas to get back to Lexington before the fuel light came on.
In Lexington, we drove into one heck of a thunderstorm. I told Mike we should pull over at Speedway, stretch our legs and figure out whether to call my mom (an hour south of town) or just what to do. We head into the store to dry off and potty while the storm blew through. Get back in the truck and Mike pulls us up to the pumps. I give him one of those looks like "Don't you even think about doing what I think you may be thinking of doing" (thinking a drive-off). He smiles back. "You ain't gonna believe this, but I found a twenty in the mens room." It was enough gas to get us to around Canter Caves before the fuel light came on AGAIN. This time we stop and are walking around and he bends over and comes up with another twenty. (Are you keeping track? 50+20+20 all "found") Got us enough gas to make it home. And just as we pulled in the drive, the gas light came on!! BUT He was there for us the entire trip and right on time everytime!!!
So short version? Looks like [you] were the first step in God being able to show his presence. He was 'feeding' us a little at a time all the way home.
