Had lunch today at The Virginian Hotel in Medicine Bow. It was a stopover at the old train station here for many years in the late 19th century and on up into the early 20th.
It was the inspiration for the dime novels, "The Virginian" and the subsequent tv series of the same name.
Coolest of all... Tons of my old west heroes have stayed here. There's a pitcure of Teddy Rooseveltm Butch Cassidy, The Sundance Kid, Judge Roy Bean, and Tom Horn with a few others posing on the front steps together. How cool is that?
The decor is exactly as it was back in the day with the exception of the electric light and a modernised kitchen. The food was GREAT! Had the "Cowboy Burger" with cheese n bacon and a basket of home fries. A little pricey, but worth it for the historical value of the place! ;D

;D Stopped by again yesterday and they were hosting "Quick draw competitions" out back. Lots of cowboys and stylish six shooter rigs with some mighty impressive times.
Had a ball!!!

The place is just too cool! I hadda go there again; this time I took my hosting family from the ranch out for steaks n taters. Great folks!!!
Great steak too; I had the big t-bone and they cooked it just right and don't smother it with rubs n such...I could taste that good grass fed beef! Loved it!
Even better was the place itself; so much history and they kept everything just as it was back in the day. ;D ;D ;D

What d'ya know? Got home from church grabbed the remote and the first thing I see is the Virginian. Couldn't help but think of your visit. Hope all is going well out there. Looks like the show is a history of the Lincoln Highway.

;D
I never had read Owen Wister's book, "The Virginian", but I do remember the series from reruns when I was a kid. Wasn't a big fan though...I greatly preferred "Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and Paladin".
