I hadn't planned on running a trapline here in Wyoming, but the opportunity to cash in on the plentiful fox, coyote, badgers, n coon is to good to pass up.
Raw fur prices are skyrocketing this year due to the collapse of the Russian fur market last year and the Chinese buyers are looking to the US to feed their demand for fur. About time we found something to export to them other than our jobs!!!
So, I invested in a few dozen traps. I've got Duke #2 coil spring's, Victor #2 double long springs, and Duke 1.75 coil springs. I've got both straight and offset jaws in each. I just put in a bid on a bunch of Montgomery #2's on e-bay I hope I win!
I got a little over 40K acres to trap, so I'll be a busy boy for a while once the temps drop.
Rather than rebar stakes, I got a bunch of cable stakes with earth anchors; a first for me and I'm looking forward to seeing how well they do.
Some of the prices advetised by Petska Furs in my area are: $25 for green coyote, $50 put up. $6 for green coon, $12-15 put up. $20 for green Red Fox, $40-50 put up. Now get this, $15-65 for green badger, up to $100 dollars put up. And the real money winner... $50-100 for green bobcat and up to $350 for one put up!!!
I'll be freezing and selling my plews green as I don't have the tools nor time to put 'em up properly. But there's still plenty room there to make a few dollars and help out the local ranch at the same time! ;D ;D ;D

With coon so plentiful in Ohoi and I bet Faith could make a killin' on coyotes... Anybody else looking to take advantage of the high fur prices?
Paws, you ought to give serious consideration to a half dozen #1.5 or 1.75 traps for your bug out gear. In a pinch they can keep ya fed and warm!

Damn, I almost forgot to tell ya'll..... Wyoming officially delisted the wolf from the endangered species list and the states orders are to shoot on sight! No restrictions on trapping them either.
So....I made a few calls to some of the ranchers up in the Bighorn and Teton valley and am waiting to hear back. If I can get permission to make a few wolf sets...OMG; wolf hides are worth $250 and most ranchers are offering a fifty dollar bounty to boot!!!
I might have to invest a couple hundred dollars in some MB750 traps, but one wolf would pay for the investment.

With the bounty on wolf up there you ought to make a great living. Figure ten grand a season just on pelts plus guide fees, cabin rents, etc.. If they open wolf up as a varmint you'll make your fortune for sure. Mars says howdy and he wishes you had asked for stone a while back. He gave away many tons from his place.

Took a short scouting trip just before sunset of my future trapline... Seen 3 red fox, 1 coyote, and 1 badger. The fox all looked a bit thin in the hide, but the coyote and badger were putting on plenty fluff to their fur.
It's been getting down into the thirties each night so the pelts are beginning to thicken up. Ought to be good to go by the first!!! ;D
Also watched a beautiful sunset over the Shirley Mountains across the plains and saw well over a hundred antelope and a handful of mule deer including one massive ten pointer I've seen several times now. Beauty of a buck!
