Well Turkey season started here in NY on May 1st. I'm not complaining one bit about the early spring, but it definately put a damper on the turkey season. One of my Buddies from Cincinnati came up to hunt with me the first few days of the season and I managed to call in a nice Tom opening morning for him. 1 inch spurs 8 inch beard about 18 pounds -- pretty respectable for his first bird. I think I was more excited than he was LOL.
I went out a few more times, but the calling season is pretty well over here. First thing in the morning, the woods is nothing but Toms Gobbling, but nothing comes in. By 6:20 AM everything shuts up and the party is over. Yesterday I did have one come in from a long way off. He must have been horney or the outcast as far as Toms go. He hung up at 62 yards and since I was leaving anyways, I decided to give it a try. I touched off that 1187 3 1/2 inch and watched him take off flynig, only to drop out of the air within 20 yards, then run another 50 or 60 yards and give up. He was a Jake, no spurs at all, 1 inch beard and in the area of 14 or 15 pounds and was great in the roasting pan last night. ;D

It was the same way around here too. Opening day I thought we were at a Tyson farm with all the gobbling going on but it didn't last long.
Our season closed yesterday and haven't heard anything for the past 2 or 3 weeks.
Of course, the foliage is so thick right now even if one came in you probably wouldn't see him until it was too late.

As long as you havn't expired ;D . Well Phil my Buddy from Cincy tells me thre arn't many birds if any down his way, but he hears there are quite a few your way. Well this season goes the length of May, your more than welcome to come up here and I will try to introduce you to one, but like I said the calling season is pretty much over here.
