Season opens this saturday in my part of Texas for rifle. This will be a special opening day for me as my youngest son is flying in later today and will be hunting with me. This will be the first deer hunt he has ever been on. We will have two weeks togeather until I leave to go on my Illinois hunt. At least I will have someone to talk to on the long drive up there. Then he goes back to work. Luck to all the rest of you out there this year.

Good times to you and your son on the hunt and with your time together. It's always special when the kids come home even if only for a little while. Cherish the time. Take some pictures, we love to share those times with you.

That sounds great Neal. I hope you two have a great time together. Let us know how the hunt goes. And like Brian said, if you can post some pictures that would even be better.

This weekend is when our youth only hunt weekend is. I was going to take my 7 year old and try to get him on his first deer. Although I have to be in direct supervision of him , it would still be his. But, being a Baptist preacher, I got an invite to go preach at a church about 2 1/2 hrs away, so I ain't going to get to take him this weekend.

Neal, sounds more like you should be on the "Father Son" hunt, letting the son take you! Freddie, there will be other weekends and "Father Son" hunts. Maybe he would rather go with you to church anyway! Baptist minister huh? Which variety Baptist are you? Where is your church?

Phil, Yep, just hurts to tell him that he won't get to go this weekend. I'm the missionary Baptist variety. The church I go to is here in Murfreesboro where I'm in-training. I surrendered to the call 4-11-04 and although I'm not ordained i am licensed. Hopefully one of these days soon the Lord will allow me to pastor one of his churches.

Cool Freddie. When you do get down this way, I'll have to take you on out to see my friend Preacher Eddie. He's an ex-air force man who answered the call. One of the most down to earth preachers I have ever met. You guys would hit it off great.

Brian, that sounds good to me. But here lately I've been getting to preach around this area and travel some ( like 2 hrs or so ). So I don't know when I'll have any time to come down there. I'm booked up for the next 2 weeks ;D

Good luck three dogs. Build some good memories with your son. It will give him something to grisp to and good memories when times get tough.

We had a good time at the lease but just couldn't bring myself to shoot a deer when it's in the 90s. Saw quite a few does some forkhorns and a six point one decent eight point but nothing we wanted to get right now.
