Marengo Aca.'s ‘Bama Buck Hunt' a success

LINDEN - The Marengo Academy's three-day Bama's Buck Belt hunt last weekend was won by the hunters. There were 57 registered hunters hosted for this year's annual event.
The hunt is one of the schools largest fundraiser. A total of 48 deer was killed in the weekend affair, which is in its 12th year. Twenty of the 48 deer killed were bucks.
“The hunters hunted five times, once on Thursday and two times each on Friday and Saturday and the food was good,” said one of the events founders, John Holley. “It was a very successful weekend.”
The hunters traveled from as far north as North Dakota and there were hunters that came as far southeast as Tallahassee, Fl. The oldest hunter that participated was Carlton Smith, 72, of Wetumpka.
The excitement has already begun for next year's hunt, which is scheduled for the first weekend in January of 2008. **********
I think a lot of groups should put on hunts like this. As far as I can tell, it's a win-win situation all the way around. They earn the money they need, hunter's get a great hunt, and the herd is cilled properly.
