I guess I went and did it. Ever since I was a small boy -- only two or three years ago -- when Johnny Wisemuller used to swing from the vines in Africa, I always wanted to go and be a "White Hunter" now they call them PH's -- Professional hunters - I wonder why ?. I and a life long friend from Mason Ohio and a third friend are going. We had a fourth going, but he had to back out yesterday, and there wasn't enough time to see if any of "you", my Ohio friends wanted to go in his place. At any rate this is something I always wanted to do and with the clock ticking, I figure I better do it whhile I can. I purchased the hunt through the SCI chapter here and it is all inclusive, except for airfare. We are allowed 6 plains game total, so it should be a great time and interesting. I think I am going to be wishing that Paws was there to do the cooking, at least I would be sure of what were eating --- then again ;D

Before you go, get a copy of Peter Capstick's, "Death In The Long Grass" and "Safari - the last great adventure".
I hope it's everything you you want it to be and more.

The Ghost And The Darkness is a true story. Col. Patterson's account of that ordeal is included in Capstick's, Death In The Long Grass. It'll dang ure give you the willies if you plan on sleeping out in the bush.
"Use Enough Gun", by Robert Ruarke is a classic I highly reccommend.
I also have a first edition, "African Game Trails", by Teddy Roosevelte. He killed more critters on that safari than he did Cubans on San Juan Hill!

Well lets see, the only death in the long grass will be me. Going at a time of year- their Fall season when the snakes "should be" holed up. No Lions in that area -- I hope.

No lions and snakes? No problem! Leopard, buffalo, rhino, croc's, elephant, or hippo will do quite nicely!
Not to mention, wounded plainsgame, hyena, liver flukes, tse-tse fies, and muslim radicals in SA, but hey, the odds are on your side!
I'm big time jealous. I booked a hunt a while back myself and had to cancel out when my leg got worse. I can't go on a bow safari and not walk.
What are you taking with you? Archery, Rifle, Slingshot? And what are you gonnabe hunting for?

"I always wanted to go and be a "White Hunter" now they call them PH's -- Professional hunters - I wonder why ?"
I looked it up for you.
"The term 'White Hunter' is, with all due apologies to the Tanzanian government, not a racist title. It merely designates a non-African who conducts safaris for sport in africa. The job is also called, 'professional hunter', PWH, or PH, and has nothing to do with the use of the word, 'guide' as applied to North American hunting. In Africa a guide is one licensed to drive tourists on photographic safaris only and has no bearing on hunting. More and more I hear Professional hunter's referre to as , 'Great White Hunter'.
"I have no idea where that term comes from, though I suspect it is probably an Americanism. So, to set things straight, there are Great White Whales, Great White Hopes, even Great White Ways, however there are NO Great White hunters. Only mediocre ones at best." - Peter H. Capstick, "Death In The Long Grass"
