www.nordstaterne.dk/Vores%20billeder/billede_index.htmI bumped into this site today. These are some Danish US Civil War re-enactors that fell in with my uin at the 140th Battle of Franklin events. They have some pics of that event linked. I'm in only 1 I see, near the center in the trenches in one frame. They are as active as they can be it looks like. What is it about the US Civil War that makes people a world away re-enact it?

We got word last week that the 18th MO (US) is coming to the 145th Shiloh in March, '07 to join in with my unit. They are from Merry Old England! The Danish boys are coming over next year to join with us again for the Mill Springs event.

That's just too neat! I guess it was such a remarkable time in history, that everybody wants to portray it. An honor to those fighting men of the past for sure!

Damn! English crumpets, Danish butter, and Paw's coffee? I sure would hate to miss that breakfast! Throw in a little venison sausage and you'll have a time to brag about!

Sounds like an international incident a-brewin' ;D I am amazed and a bit confused about just what it is about he American Civil War that causes such world-wide interest. I guess it is the "romance" of the glorious "lost causes" and the colorful characters involved as well as the scale the battles with "romantic" names were. The Blockade Runner where I do most of my work from has sold stuff to American Civil War re-enactors in many countries and I have heard of re-enactors in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, England, German, France and Canada.

These same Danes were with my unit this past weekend at Mill Springs. What a great bunch of fellas (and gal) they are. They are really very interested in our Civil War and were heading off this week to tour VA sites before flying home. This time, one of them brought his 27 year old daughter who is now doing a Medical Staff impression. What a sweetheart! We are all deeply in love with her. She is pretty which of course is a major plus, but what a fun gal she is as well! She had a mug of Miller or Bud and was complaining that our beer is like water to them. I half-heartedly offered her a cigar I was smoking, thinking that like every other woman I have offered one to she'd decline, but no, she said sure and took mine and commenced to smoke it with her beer! The Danes were passing Jack Daniels and Wild Turkey around the campfire claiming it was the closest thing to real liquor they could find here, and were MIXING the 2 beverages in mugs! Their gal was howling at the full moon and at one point said she needed to stop drinking or she'd next be running around camp naked. Many bottles were quickly thrust her direction! ;D
The camps had a tug of war game Sunday and attached to prolongs at the T-handle of one and the ring of the other to make the rope. They attached "our" Danes to one side and had some brutes from another camp on the other. At "PULL" they all heaved back. The ropes creaked and then "PING!" they all fell backwards. The ring of 1 prolong bent open and let the T-handle out! A hearty laugh was had by all. ;D
