www.gettysburgreenactment.com/event/145th.htmThe 145th Gettysburg already has a link on the normal Gettysburg site due to interest in it. I've never been to it, but our unit is talking about travelling to do this one next year.

The 140th Gettysburg was washed (flooded) out, and so when they rescheduled it a few weeks later it was really small from what I heard. Many participants have since been itching to get to the 145th. The fact that they have already posted info about the 145th Getty means there is a ton of early interest.
My own unit rarely does long trips, but we are talking about renting a bus and all going as 1 unit to this one. We can't be the 9th KY there since that unit was not at Getty, but we'll fall in with the other US infantry as some other unit.
Oh, one thing is for certain. If you are planning a trip to this event, you'll need to make all the hotel reservations a long way in advance.

It is pretty much decided that the 9th KY unit will attend Gettysburg next year. I know at the very least some of us are going even if not part of the unit, but the general concensus this past weekend was for the unit to travel together up there. We won't be the 9th KY when on the field probably since that unit never fought there, but we'll join under some other flag and be blue.

Shi, Are they extending the registration cutoff date because of lack of registered participants? I hope not, I hope there are a ton of soldiers taking to the field. What an incredible thing to see. Wish there was a way I could go.

I don't know why they are extending it. My guess would be it is more to do with people waiting until too late to see if they have other events planned and lobbying to be let in still. I run across a lot of re-enactors that are talking about going so it will be big so long as weather does not hinder it. At the 140th anniversary, week-long monsoon rains flooded the fields so deep they had to postpone it a couple of weeks, and that meant most participants could not reschedule work or school to go and it was said to be a bust when they did have it.

We got a dispatch from our Cpt yesterday with all sorts of info we must know before getting to Gettysburg. We are forming into 2nd Brigade of the 3rd Division. That tells me we got a bigger event than anything I have yet seen. The 145th Shiloh only had 2 battalions of Federal Inf and perhaps what I'd call a brigade of Reb Inf. Our Div has been volunteered to take part in the 11am Saturday Cavalry and Artillery fight. Seems they need some Federal Inf to slaughter or something so we are being told to prepare to rally by 4s and by Company and even possibly "form squares." There is going to be 400 cavalry on the field with us! I have never even seen 400 horses at 1 time, let alone 400 mounted ones with pistols and carbines blazing away and sabres flashing coming down upon my precious arse!

They had a mortar competition Sat and there was a target of something out there that was explossive. After several attempts, finally one, I think an 8" gun landed a ball on-target. There was an enormous explossion that blew dirt and clods of grass perhaps 100' around! We'd been sitting on the field awaiting a battle during some of it and had grown used to the bangs of the guns and all of a sudden the ground shuddered and there was a tremendous thump on our chests as the target, whatever it was, blew up! We got exempted to the cavalry fight but I was able to see it from the field. I don't know how many took part but the main field had several charges and counter charges that filled the field body to body for an acre or so. I am guessing they had their 400 horsies. The artillery was constant and cool. One crew had a brand-new bronze 24 pdr howitzer! Awesome! They had 200 guns registered and may have had that many. I never was able to see them all due to the guns being stretched across the fields and several times being moved in the battle. There were some horse-drawn guns. I suspect there were 15,000 re-enactors with about 10,000 - 12,000 being infantry. Us Feds were still as usual outnumbered, but it was almost even, maybe 2:1. I got a good 1st-2nd degree burn on my neck from my Enfield barrel on Sat. I had it propped against my left shoulder as I knelt to bring up rounds from my box's tins. It slid against my neck and for about 2 seconds I was frantically trying to get her off of me and get my hands out of my box without dropping all the rounds. All I could do was sizzle.
