Bette and I were in a hurry to get back from our reunion/GT near Gatlinburg but stopped just off I-40 at the Civil War Battle site of Parker's Crossroads. Had a pleasant visit with a couple who were running the visitor center and purchased DVD's (3) on the Civil War Battles. The curator told us that they would be having a new center in a year or two on land that was just purchased-so will stop when we go thru this area again. From Nashville on West it reminded us of where we live here in the Ozarks! Sure is pretty rugged country! Would have liked to met Shiloh and others in the area but just didn't have time--maybe our next trip. We stayed overnite in Jackson and it was 102* at Casey Jones Mall! Had a great time and enjoyed Tennessee and are looking forward to another trip in cooler weather!!

Yep, it is too dern hot AND humid! I have to be at Stones River this whole weekend wearing the wool so pray for me. Parker's Crossroads is a neat place. Too bad they built I-40 smack through the center of the battlefield. The notion to restore it and remember it is really coming along so at least some of it can be preserved.

The orange pickers in Florida told me that they wear wool tobogans and sweaters to (of all things) keep cool! I don't hold too much to that logic. Last couple of days, I've had on as few clothes as morally and legally allowed and I'm still dripping wet.
Keep as cool as possible with plenty of fluids too. Prayers are with everyone who has to work or do anything outside in these temps.

Almost naked and dripping wet!? Now I'm turned on! ;D Yep, we'll be drinking lots of water and sitting in the shade whenever possible.
Poor fellas back then did it with normal water rations usually and still had to fight or march in it. Many simply dropped dead, right alongside the dying animals.

:-XWool and picking oranges?? I can't imagine anyone fighting in this heat and our poor troops are doing it right now! Our troops have more necessities now but the unbearable heat and no shade! GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!

See, Phil! I told you it was going to rain!! I'm cooler and drier today. And I found out that *729 (Paw) is not the same as #729 (pay) when using speed dial. I'd better come up with something else so the next time I go to pay the phone bill, I don't get an oversees operator that sounds like he's from Athens County!! ;D ;D
